API and ACT Scores Released
On August 31st, The State Department of Education released the 2010 Academic Performance Information (API) scores as well as the 2010 ACT college entrance examination scores. TSAS is proud to say that our average cumulative ACT score is 22.3, the highest among Tulsa Public Schools and our API score is 1376 out of a possible 1500, also one of the highest in Tulsa. If you are interested in looking at all of this data, you can find the ACT and API scores at the state website. I believe that these results recognize all of the hard work that the teachers and staff put in to give all of our students the best education possible.
Distinguished Visitors at TSAS
Yesterday was an exciting day here at TSAS, we had visitors from Youth Services of Tulsa as well as acclaimed author Jonathan Safran Foer.
The artists from Youth Services of Tulsa brought information about their art outreach offerings and presented to each of the theatre and visual arts classes. These offerings include ArtSoup classes, a drama troupe, and their teen coffee house. Thanks to George Romero for bringing in these great opportunities for our kids.
Jonathan Safran Foer was visiting Tulsa for a talk last night sponsored by Book Smart Tulsa and stopped by to speak to a packed room of students and teachers for over an hour about his books and the life of an author. The event was covered by KWGS radio and a new monthly publication called This Land Press. Special thanks goes to Jeff Martin, who set up this visit and has always been a friend to TSAS. We hope we will have more collaborations with Book Smart Tulsa in the future.
TSAS Students Care!
On Tuesday, while parents were at the Back-to-School night, member of Key Club and the National Honor Society worked together to package food for Kids Against Hunger a national humanitarian
food-aid organization. So many student showed that they nearly ran out of work for them all, thanks to Madame Doss and Mr. Stallings for sponsoring these organizations that are doing so much good.
