I have pushed a change in dev branch for the netrpc protocol (used by the GTK
client). It adds gzip compression for message between client-server when the
size is greater then 1400 (MTU).
I made some measures and found that we have a gain for the size of messages
between 2 and 5 times smaller.
Please make some tests to ensure that nothing has been broken.

PS: By the way, gzip encoding has also been implemented for XML-RPC and a
patch has been sended to pywebdav [1].
