Base Camp May 22

our next meeting with be May 22. If you have ever wanted to know why's
and how's of kayak fishing and how to get started then join us. Jeff
Herman editor of the kayaking section in Harold Well's Gulf Coast
Fisherman and TPWD speaker will be our guest. You will hear some great
advice and get to ask your questions as well as get to know some great

I have used them a couple of times on the lake in my subdivision and
once on a farm pond. I rig them weightless on a big hook 4/0 or so and
reel so that they stay on top. It is fun watching them knock them out
of the water. Do we need to take some kayaks up there?

Bass on Lake Conroe

I hear the bass are tearing up the Zoom Horny Toads in Watermelon Seed
or Red on the north end of Conroe. I know that the guide from Fayette
County talked briefly about this bait. I'm interested in hearing
others thoughts on them. What's the best way to rig them, fish them,
favorite colors?

Turkey hunting or fishing

There will soon be lots of choices for the sportsman headed outdoors.
Spring is quickly approaching and that means a new "old" quarry.
Turkey hunting has become a passion as those toms gobble and shake the
woods. There is also the possibility of catching some big fish in
fresh or salt water. What do you prefer to chase?

We have a couple of great Base Camps coming up for you to be a part
of...on February 21 Clint Avant will be here talking dog training.
You'll enjoy this night full of practical advice on training dogs and
enjoying them out in the field.

Then on March 27 we have a fishing guide from Fayette County Lake

True North's Base Camp this month is a meeting about fishing. There
will be a casting game, a representative from Gander Mountain and a
white elephant lure exchange. Come for the fun and fellowship and
bring a wrapped lure to exchange around the table, 7pm in the Student
Building.

I've heard of several guys out deer hunting but I haven't heard any
reports...

Anyone fishing?

I've been out a couple of times since Thanksgiving. Scott and I had a
good goose hunt on 11/30 we killed 24 thanks to some fog and willing
birds...

On 12/8 I hunted with Mike in Matagorda and we killed 15 ducks in 20

next hunt???

Has anyone been out hunting or fishing? If you saw the photo on the
True North site you know we had shorts and flip flops on for a goose
hunt. Maybe we'll have one cold day between now and Christmas.
Any deer hunting reports?
Hogs?
Duck/goose?
Fish?
