Anybody in this group have a pair of clipless pedals they’d like to unload? If so, what kind, how old, and what price? Thanks!

It’s funny how season’s change and, with it, the opportunities to ride with a group on a winter Saturday. In an attempt to put together something consistent that anybody can join, I’d like to call for a regular Saturday morning ride from the church on the end of Portertown/Ivy (same place as the Tricredible Tuesday ride).
I may have my rosy colored glasses on, but what I envision is a winter ride very similar to our beloved Thursday night ride which sadly lies dormant until DST. I hope we can make this Saturday ride one where everybody shows up regardless of pace and distance. We may not be able to all ride together for whatever reason, but I would hope we can start together at least just like on Thursday nights and have some social time for a few miles before we each succumb to our own individual agenda.
I realize some of you may have your favorite Saturday ride already underway, but consider these benefits:
- higher potential for social stuff
- we don’t have to tell newbies to Greenville that there are 12 Saturday rides to choose from and go through all that b.s. of what’s the best ride for them and which one has the right pace….blah blah blah.
- this one starts at a church, so it’s blessed by default (that one’s a stretch, huh?)
- I’m assuming the location is good for everyone, since the Tuesday ride brings in a good crowd, and it got some thumbs up from some Winterville folks today. The dudes that used to meet at Bike Post on Saturdays are up for the switch as well, so hopefully you are too.
So, I’m suggesting a 9 am start, which gives those of you that want to start earlier for extra mileage the chance to do so, yet still gives the group a chance to get 2 or 3 hours in before the day gets away from us.
Anyway, I hope you all will give it a shot. We did a 45 mile loop this morning. I’ll evolve this route into something Rand McNally friendly so those of you that like to commit it to memory can do so.
John Lennox, could you post this ride on the Tricredible website? And if the appropriate person from EC Velo is on this list, perhaps you’d be willing to do so as well?
Please spread the word to anyone that isn’t on the list!
Ride on, homeys, and happy holidays!
Bruce
Here’s the loop for tomorrow’s Saturday ride from the church at the end of Portertown Rd. This is 44 miles long, and the regular 25 mile Tuesday loop will also be an option that some are planning to take. We’ll all be on the same route for the first 11 miles, and we can take it at a social pace for most of that just like we do on Thursdays.
VOA Rd has been redone and is super super smooth now. The best road in the county. Gotta come do the ride just for the luxurious experience of riding on silk!
We will vary this ride from time to time to keep our interest up through the winter. But for now, it’s a start anyway…….
Anyway, looking forward to seeing you if you can make it. Weather is gonna be outstanding!

Happy holidays,

What a great group we had yesterday at the Saturday ride from Portertown! Thanks to all that showed up, whether you’re all in or you were just humoring me! I hope we can keep this up through the winter, so if you feel like a Saturday bike ride come on out and join us.
Phillip was even lucky enough to be given a present of some nice iPod earphones by some locals oozing with Christmas spirit!
We’ll make the warmup a little faster. I didn’t hear anyone complain that it was too fast, but more so on the other end. Those that want to impress each other with their speediness will also break off earlier, say at Sis Mills on the route we did yesterday.
Also, for the speedy folks, we’ll have a sprint line at the end of the ride. It’ll be at the 35 mph sign on Ivy Rd just before we finish at the church. It’s right where the downhill dip in the road starts as we approach the intersection of Portertown and Ivy. Winner gets a box of tampons.
Here’s a link to some other optional routes that we can choose to do if the wind beckons, or if we just feel like shuffling things around a bit. I’ll have a 60 mile option shortly. I apologize to those of you cyclist types that I’m directing you to a run friendly website:
http://www.mapmyrun.com/routes/my_routes/
And if you have any other ideas please feel free to share so we can make this ride as great as the Thursday Night World Championships!
So, Saturdays at 9 am from the church at the end of Portertown. See ya there!
Happy holidays,
Bruce
Don’t forget the ride tomorrow at 9 am! We have distance options and speed options, so anyone and everyone is welcome! For more details, read below. See ya in the morning!

Saturday ride at Portertown church is on for 9 am tomorrow morning, with multiple loop options depending on what pace and distance you’re feeling like. Yeah, it’ll be a little windy. Yeah, it’ll be a little cold. We’ll all pair up for snuggles afterwards. See ya there!

Thanks Lizz for organizing the trip to Yoder's. And thanks to the faster Bob for getting there early and reserving a table. Shirley and I both had a great time. The extraordinarily thick French toast was very good.
It looks like we got in about 47-48 miles for the round trip.
Bob (older, slower)
Looks like it’ll be a chilly one, but hope to see y’all at the Saturday ride at 9 am tomorrow from the church at the south end of Portertown Rd. Should be various loops available. For those going 60 miles, the loop will be a modified version of the 40 miler we started with several weeks ago (to avoid some rough patches north of 264 and cut out that bit of having to ride on 264 altogether). This will also get us back on track for riding “social style” the first few miles with anybody going a shorter loop.
See ya there!

Don’t miss the Saturday ride tomorrow morning from the church on the south end of Portertown at 9 am! Some of us will do the 60(ish) mile loop that we did the week before last, but there is also a group that does a shorter loop if you prefer. Gonna be a little chilly, so bring your big boy/girl britches!
See ya there,

I guess I’ve been out of the loop on cycling for the last few months. Has anyone been going to the Saturday rides from Portertown/Eastern Pines/Ivy church? Anyone interested in getting that ride going again this winter? If things have moved on, s’cool. Otherwise I’ll try to be out there Saturdays. 8? 9? 60 mi? I was thinking of changing the route for better roads too. I was thinking direct to Yoder’s and then do the loop down south of there…..if that makes any sense.
I have lots of work to do to get back to pedalin’. I could use the company.
Please forward to anyone else that might be interested.
Happy 2014,
Bruce Richter
Sounds like a decent plan. Starting with 40 or so miles sounds like a great idea too. Maybe a 40, two 50’s and then a 60. As hard as it is to fathom Bruce, some of us have real lives…….
