What route are you planning to take out here (where here==the west)?

I don't know that I can offer much advice, having never moved across the
country either, but if nothing else we can commiserate about moving.  I
will be moving from Stockton, CA, to Raleigh in March (hence my lurking
about and reading this list).  My stuff will be in the hands of movers
but I intend to drive my car over with my three cats on board.  I-40
seems to be the most obvious way to go, but obvious is not necessarily
the best given that it's still winter, and travelling with a bunch of
cats will definitely make things more "fun" whatever way I choose.
