On the heels of a couple of welcome comments today, let me remind folks of the following:
When you send a ride announcement (or any other email, for that matter) to the Triad Ride List, you are emailing almost 800 people. There's a good chance that many or most of those people don't know you or aren't familiar with your ride. So before you press send, take a moment to make sure you're offering enough information that anyone who reads the message can understand it.
At minimum, ride announcements should include:
- the day, date and time of the ride
- a specific starting location with an address, intersection or unique landmark (Battleground Park Visitors Center is one; Chik Fil A, of which there are many in the Triad, isn't)
- Who the ride is for
- Distance and pace
- A cue sheet, if you're so inclined
Most folks are great about including enough info. But occasionally someone makes a ride announcement that assumes all 800 of us can mind read. Please don't be that person.
Thanks again to the folks who raised this issue, and for everyone's help making this a more useful email list.
