MV 2009 Suggestions - Music Video Day

Music Videos are one of the types of fan productions that were common
as mud until recently but have come under a very real threat from the
copyright owners. I've just had cause to check the 2008 Music Video
page ...

... and of the eight we chose, three of them are now unavailable due
to copyright problems! This is unfortunate because this was in the
past a sure fire winner that was there for us to link to and with the
embedded players looked really good!

What to do for this year? Well, on the one hand what I proposed for
Audio dramas - a festival - is something that has been done before for
Music Videos (although free online?) but on the other hand we
preferably want something that is a lasting legacy to fans so that
they will keep coming back to the website - I really don't want too
many dead links and it looks like that is one thing we can guarantee
will happen in the current climate.

I can see one possibility though - perhaps we could get either an up-
and-coming independant band or a "garage band" (or a number of them!)
to offer their music for the purpose of making it/them available to
filmmakers as the backing track to a music video? The only copyright
issues then will be the same CBS / Paramount issue we have with all
the other fan productions!
