to Trek Twelve days of Xmas
Gaming is a very wide and popular field. There are plenty of games
made for free that can be featured, but how do you present them as a
group event? What do you call a group of games?

Well from the days of my youth, I remember boxes of games that were
sold as a “compendium” if you want to go retro. In fact, looking at
the games I listed in 2007 many of them are the type of thing that you
might get in a boxed set: Trek Chess, card games, and tabletop games
for example. On a personal note, I have a hankering to develop a
Constructable Card game.

There are two other broad categories from the games I listed, computer
games and RPGs and the former could be the easiest to cater for since
they are ideally suited to inclusion on a DVD / CD. This might be
where an LCARS style interface would really come into its own because
their classification is hierarchical, as I've tried to show in
previous years. It could also have a presentation from STOL and I have
this idea for abandonware.

RPGs represent a challenge. We can make available, or link to, gaming
material but does that get people playing the games? For example
fantasy trek and ST AAB? What you guys want is players, maybe some
sort of online gaming event or group of events? I dunno, I can't think
of "one solution to fit all" for you guys - perhaps something on an
individual basis?

This is a category that is made up of dozens of individuals -
thoughts?

that is a tough one. If Fantasy Trek had graphics to it, a few screenies would suffice. Something to draw the player in, and if I ever learn Java, or get a tech-savvy partner, it wouldn't be a problem. All I have now are log entries and simple text-based maps. I'm even planning to phase out the pretty maps I have for all text-based. I've even drawn, scanned, and colored my own ship design, and I'm pretty happy about it. But then what I do for Fantasy Trek won't necessarily work for STAAB. All I can suggest is, as you say, links, with an enticing blurb to get people to click. Hey, speaking of the 2009 run, if my "Enterprise: Xindi" Expansion Pack is up and running, would that make it? Technically it wouldn't be a new game, just an expansion....

As long as it fits into a "Day's" category, I'd be more than happy for
an individual or group to use the Twelve trek Days as a "release event"
for an expansion pack, a new episode or other release of an existing
project, programme or series that they might have. If you wanted to use
next Christmas as a goal for completion of your expansion pack that
would be great!

Hmmm That might be a new look for the website. Instead of just one thing
that is structured specially for the Day as we had for, say the Music
Video day, we could have some of them which set out like a Magazine
front page with links to ...
- two new episodes released from existing fan films
- The Fan Film year in retrospect (I swear I'm working on last year's
still!)
- A selection of YouTube fan films
- Free competition to win signed scripts from established fan film
groups (would we get away with a charity auction?)
- Photo essay on "Alien Makeup"
- Streamed interviews

Something like that could be especially good for Gaming as well with a
wide and diverse content and audience
