todays update (2012-01-15) has improved the mac version significantly!

- faster
- doesn't appear to crash anymore
- scrollbars work
- copy paste works (for non-international characters)
- toolbar and statusbar now work
- insert grid now has a shortcut (CTRL+g)
- tabs render correctly

in all, functionality-wise it is now fully useable, it just still looks very non-mac native. In particular the color drop downs look and behave wrong, but are usable.

I was trying out TreeSheets on my Mac and really liked the app.
(Thanks for porting it!)

However, I could not save anything (Save, Save As, Save on Exit, etc.)

I have tried TreeSheets in these configurations -
* Snow Leopard on a 3G RAM, Dual Core Intel-based Mac
* Lion on a 4G RAM, Intel i7-based Mac

Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks!

Mike,

I have been using TreeSheets myself on Lion, and Save (Command+S)
works just fine for me.
Can you tell me a bit more about what exactly you are doing? Where are
you saving the document?

Yes.

The included "tutorial" sheet / grid seems to save with Command + S or
File | Save just fine ("file saved successfully").

However, when I create a new sheet / grid (say 10 x 10), it doesn't.

Steps to reproduce:
Click on New Icon (Or Command + N)
Choose 10 for new sheet / grid size and click OK
Fill in a few cells
Choose any of "File | Save" or "File | Save As" or Command + S
Then, one of two things happen...
Either when I try to choose a file name for "Save As", it leaves
me typing in a cell
Or, if I already clicked outside my grid, the "Save As" section
does nothing
(Either way, I get a blinking cursor in for the "Save As" /
filename but it won't accept input)

Again, I see this on two different Macs, on Snow Leopard and on Lion.

Thanks for your quick response!

So, I can edit / save to an old document, but I cannot create a new
one. Again, the dialog box where I try to enter the filename doen't
work for me (Snow Leopard and Lion)...

Thanks!

I can now see the problem, somehow keystrokes to the save dialog
instead go treesheets.
I'll see if I can fix it, and report back here.

Meanwhile, I guess the workaround is to make a copy of an existing
document and clear it to create new ones.

Just looked into it, and can't find out why the file dialog passes
through key strokes to the main TreeSheets window.

For now, I at least added a default filename, so you can always save
under that name, though you can't rename it withing TreeSheets.
Still, that's better than not being able to save your data at all,
which is very frustrating.
Please re-download the OS X version.

There is a workaround to save with what names you want (from within treesheets).

If you select text that is already in treesheets (I select with mouse), copy it, and when prompted to save, right click in the save box/ select paste. It then gets entered as the filename.

This can be handy as often the file name you will use is already in the text! So just copy and paste it in.

It may even help shed a light on what is causing the bug  (or may not!)

Andrew.

Hello Wouter,

Thanks in advance for your help.

I installed the most recent version of Treesheets on my mac and ran into this problem while using in a dual monitor environment.

I can no longer access any of the borders of the TreeSheets application window, or the tabs at the bottom.  TreeSheets is now maximized and cannot be resized.
Please see attachment.

I tried deleting the application and reinstalling, and even tried searching to where the application preferences are stored, but nothing worked.

Hopefully there is a simple fix for this.

Thanks so much !

John

In case it's useful to anyone, I was able to figure out how to fix this.

Just delete TreeSheets preferences under /Users/<your account/Library/Preferences/TreeSheets Preferences

Cheers

Just tried with a second monitor, and I think I see the problem: it does not resize the window when you unplug the higher res monitor, and the window borders will be out of view. It then remembers this across runs.
Will have to see how to detect that.

Yes ... that's exactly what happened !

The only way I could fix this was by deleting the preferences.
