Greetings all,

I hope everyone had a productive and not too overwhelming TRB.

I had commented that I would like to enlist and invite others to create posts on the ABJ60.net website and share thoughts through this listserv.

For those of you that are interested in sharing news, insights, opinions and research topics on either of these forums please let me know.  To create posts on the ABJ60 website I simply need to provide you with access to the site.  Then with a simple login you too can be an author on our website.

If you want something less formal then simply send an email to the address trb-...@googlegroups.com (provided you are a member of the listserv) .

I believe these forums can serve as a healthy mechanism for us to communicate with each other and possibly serve as a foundation for the development of research needs statements, an important role for the group.  So please consider participating and contributing your thoughts.

Thank you again for your time, thoughts and efforts.

Martin,

I was unfortunately not able to attend the ABJ60 Committee meeting this year, but did have an announcement of potential interest to the group.  I will follow your less formal suggestion to just send this to the listserv, but in the event that I don’t have posting permissions I would appreciate it if you or Cesar would forward it on (assuming you agree with its appropriateness for the group—you can also feel free to post any of this on the website if you like).

Thanks,

Jeff

TSDC News Updates

This announcement concerns news updates on the Transportation Secure Data Center (TSDC), which archives and provides secure access to real-world travel data to support different GIS analyses.  The website is www.nrel.gov/tsdc, and I have also attached a fact sheet highlighting some example applications for TSDC data.  Here is a rundown of recent news highlights on the TSDC:

* Many people have taken advantage of the cleansed data that is readily available to download from the website (the table at the end of this update lists many of the available datasets).  If you generated any publications using TSDC data in 2012 or expect to publish in 2013, please let us know about it!

* Fewer users have taken advantage of the secure web portal for working with detailed spatial data, so if you do have an application for which the cleansed data is insufficient, feel free to apply for access to the secure area.  This area may be accessed on-line from the comfort of your own desk after completing a simple application describing your desired analysis and receiving approval.  If you are interested in more information or would like to apply for an access account in this area please contact me at Jeff....@nrel.gov.

* For anyone interested in a roughly 10-minute overview of the TSDC and/or an additional 10-minute discussion of its operating procedures, there is now a webinar with this content posted on the website that may be viewed at any time.  If you would like to save the date, we are also planning a webinar for March 14 at 1 pm Eastern to demonstrate some of the available ways to access/analyze TSDC data and to field audience questions.  For those who subscribe through the website to receive occasional news updates on the TSDC (sent out 2-4 times per year), I will send out information on how to connect to the webinar closer to that date.

 * Finally, here is a summary of currently available datasets:

Hello Jeff,

Thanks for sharing this information.  Your email went to the listserv too.  So you seem to have privileges.

I have registered for access to the data.  Our minds will start thinking about how we may leverage the data to support our research.

Thanks,
