I received this Christmas card from El Corte Ingles, the Spanish
Department store, so thought I would pass it on to everyone here, for
you to enjoy or cringe, according to outlook.

Heyyyy, that's the scarf that everyone in Spain wears. Now I know where they got it. Ha ha.  But seriously I thought it was a very tactful play on words. :-)

Thanks for the seasonal messages (from Mac & Karen) and hope that all of you are doing well.  Went on my annual trip to Spain. but a little later than usual (mid-Oct to mid-Nov)....many problems with aging & ill relatives, so wasn't too pleasant.  Don't know how many more annual trips I will be making in the future, but I'll keep making the trip as long as I am able and my relatives who know me are still around.   Seasons greetings to all of you.....

My companion is interested in doing the entire Camino de Santiago walk.....Where is the place to contact for this.....that is reliable, knowledgeable, and reasonably priced.  What does the group suggest....especially those who have done the walk (or part of it)?......Wonder if Karen or Mac or some of the old-timers or Roger have done the walk....my best to all of you....

Alfonso,
I have done this twice - the first time was a 200km stretch in 2000 and then again in 2010 when I did the entire Camino Del Norte. There are really good sites out there that detail the walk, including my blog - but the best way to experience the Camino is to 'wing' it. Start walking in preparation, get good boots NOW and break them in and above all space your stops based on your fitness - one size DOES NOT fit all - even if a website says a 28 mi walk is easy that doesnt mean you can do that every day.  It is a phenomenal experience if you let it be. I stayed in albergues, hotels, camped in the mountains in blizzards, brothels, police stations...... made lifelong friends, got a new perspective on life.

So, my suggestions:

- start working on your fitness
- get your gear ready
- pick a route (del Norte, Primitivo, the southern route through Extremadura, the tradicional  ....)
- decide if you are going to do all of it or a section
- pick a time

- WALK !!

It is one of the best experiences I have had and I plan to return again next year.

Oh, by the way - some of the best books on it are

- The pilgrimage by Paolo Coelho
- Shirley MacLaine's book
- the movie 'The Way' released this year

Please let me know if I can help any way I can.

Hari

Sorry I can't help with this one. I have family members that have done the Camino de Cabrera (http://www.cofradia-cristodecabrera.com/)  but not Santiago.
