Thank you Roger for creating the group and all the others that have
contributed to the group. I just wish more of us would contribute to
make a more active group. We have/had a group of people who know and
visit Spain frequently and that can provide insights into the country
and its culture. It would be beneficial to have the opinions of those
still interested on different places and regions of Spain....I know that
Sue's base is Salamanca and has family ties there...but what is her &
others favorite places to visit and places they do not like or feel
they are over-rated. This includes, esp Roger.
My centers (because my cousins are there) are Puebla de Trives (in
Orense prov of Galicia) and Santiago de la Ribera (on the coast of
Murcia in the southeast). When my companion accompanied me to Spain,
from the 1990s through 2006 we always spent some extra days in Madrid
and we traveled to virtually all the tourist attractions (never made it
yet to the Canaries) and different parts not as frequently visited by
North American tourists, but notably favorites for us: Cangas de Onis &
Covadonga in the Picos de Europa, La Alberca & the Sierra de la Peña de
Francia (near Salamaca) , resurrected village (Valdelavilla) in the prov
of Soria, San Sebastian, Gibraltar, Andorra, Alicante-Elche, La Albufera
(just south of Valencia), the Ebro delta and adjacent coast, El Puente
del Arzobispo (SW of Talavera de la Reina) and many places in Galicia,
especially Orense, Santiago de Compostela, La Coruña (city and coast to
the west). There are truly no places I dislike, but I have disliked the
recent congestion of many places and parking in the cities (include
small cities) since my first adult trip in 1971.
I certainly would like to know the views of this group about which
places of Spain they like and dislike ......hope you are all able to
make it there again this year (as I am hoping)......have been traveling
every year to Spain since the early/mid 1980s, except for 1996.....Roger
how long have you lived in Spain and Sue how long have you been going there?
