Of posible inerest, some data I put together ina discussion comparing car costs and San Diego future mass transit costs.

Some long term context and the taxpayer car owner subsidy cost for alternatives?.
Over a lifetime driving period; say $12Kyr and cut back to 12K mile/yr, ave occupancy 1.4. Overall $0.71/pass-mile. That's new car every 5 years. Based on car lifetime it is probably less than $0.50/p-m.
As with AAA, included are owenership costs including amortized interest, deprreceation, taxes and fees for roads, sinals, parking districts and direct fes, etg, plus direct operating fuel, maintenance etc.
2950RTP 40 year mass transit operations only costs work out to $1.18/p-m. for the capability added during that period. It assumes a limear build up of use and of costd reaching the 2.1 p-m daily at the end of the period.
No capital cost or depreciation are included. Adding them reach about $2.36/p-m.
Actual fare rate for the same yearly travel; about $0.30.p-m with monthly pases.
Guess what additional costs taxpaying car owners have to pay?
And the vast majority believe the added value of on-demand perrsonal direct to real destinations in half the time is worth it; whether or not youth car use increasessome or not.
Is this the basis for seeking new echnology system that will reduce all these costs, increase safety while providing substantial reduction in energy and emissions?

Regarding Bay Area TOD. (50% mass transit share.)
What would the cost/p-m be to have BART within 1/4 mile of most homes?

Here it is a bit smaller...

And the vast majority believe the added value of on-demand personal direct to real destinations in half the time is worth it; whether or not youth car use increases some or not.
