On November 3 I presented "Personal Automated Transport, Past, Present,
Future" to a National Active and Retired Federal Employees chapter.
From the PowerPoint presentation: some desirable features of PAT-
"No need for a driver’s license
No driver
Takes as few as one person directly to destination economically without
stops to drop off or pick up other passengers.
The vehicle (or system) knows the passengers and their preferences
Demand-response - the vehicle waits for the passenger, not the passenger
waiting for the vehicle"

I discussed elevators, automated cars or robotaxis, personal rapid
transit, airplanes, Evacuated Tube Transport™ and spacecraft.
If anyone wants to see the PowerPoint presentation email me at
"tadwiniecki(at)gmail.com" and I will send it as an email attachment.

Tad,  have you any thoughts about presenting this at San Diego?  I think it would be interesting, if LaHood and the Gov were there. However, sometimes such VIP's do their speech, and leave right after the flash-bulbs are finished.

While I think this meeting is really a fund raiser for conventional HSR, such a presentation, pre or post flashbulbs will get some press and on the record.

You haven't mentioned the reaction and comments from/by your Active/Retired audience?  (No jokes please about federal employee distinctions!)

I lived in San Diego for 18 years and enjoyed it very much. I would like to go back to visit but would prefer a little earlier in the year when I can go swimming in the ocean in warmer water.
Anyone who is going to the meeting is welcome to take my presentation, modify it, and present it in whatever form they want. If you modify it much you can take my name off as the author and put yours on.
The NARFE people were very attentive and interested and asked several questions. They liked the increased mobility and decreased travel costs of PAT. I gave my Kawasaki KZ250 motorcycle as an example of my least cost travel mode for average trips in a metro area, which brought a question on motorcycle safety. I welcomed this as I have 5 patents on motorcycle safety inventions. I used motorcycles and bicycles as examples of high capacity transport with small capacity vehicles.
God bless you.
