Peter

That is my task to make this comment as moderator but thank you for stepping in on this one.  We do need to keep our focus so we are effective and wondering off, on topics that are not innovative will only hurt our cause.  Presently I let all posts go from previously vetted users.  To avoid all off-topic posts I would need to slow the response and approve each and every post as they come in.  I prefer self policing on topic as it relates to innovative transportation ideas.  If the group decides they need me to filter tighter I can do that.

Jerry, I appreciate what you do. Personally, I would prefer a much
tighter filter but realize this will take a lot of effort.

All,

The PRT Strategies website should be back up later today when some domain transfers have completed and our large video collection has uploaded.  It would be nice to be able to say we were being overrun with business to have made this relatively small expense, but that's unfortunately not the case.  We just want to be ready if some opportunity comes along.

For what it's worth, we're VERY encouraged that the Morgantown/WVU system is being upgraded (for only $19 million?) -- this high-capacity, working well, long-time accident-free system continues as THE example of how this technology can be employed to resolve a particular problem and move a lot of people efficiently and inexpensively.  As other types of transportation systems FAIL to be implemented in the U.S. (especially high-speed rail), we feel that PRT remains a viable alternative for many locales, and not just as a local, parking lot connector, but as a metropolitan service.

For example, I had a conversation earlier with a political contact who's involved with the Victorville (CA) <> Las Vegas DesertXpress rail project. It MIGHT succeed IF it used PRT as a last mile connector in downtown Las Vegas and the Strip to transfer people from the train to the hotel/casinos.  If effect, PRT could succeed in Las Vegas where the nonsensical (and thoroughly bankrupt) Monorail could not.  We also suspect the ~$6 billion elevated light rail project in Honolulu will fail due to its dramatically bad design, growing local opposition and the ultimate unavailability of federal funding.  Once again, PRT would be an extremely viable alternative, and if we can be a useful resource in promoting this technology as a sensible, safe and high-value solution, we'd hope the vendor community sees consultants like my small operation as a resource.

Hopefully, with a new administration in 2013, more sensibility will prevail and we'll all have our opportunities.

Roy
