My calendar must be wrong. I did not realize that it is April 1.

Texas has a partially built particle accelerator we could send out there to California.  The fed spent two billion dollars digging a big circular hole filling it with nice equipment and then filling it back in burying the nice equipment.  A perfect shovel ready project would be to hire LA workers to come dig this puppy up in the middle of Texas haul it to California and use it to accelerate that short train route.  It sounds like they will want to get where they are going before they leave so what better way than a particle accelerator on crack.  Maybe they smoked the crack first and that accounts for the story.  http://www.wired.com/wiredscience/2009/09/super-collider-gallery/all/1

on Angels Flight’s 298-foot route

http://notthelatimes.com/assets/photos/angelsflight3.jpg
Hoping to burnish his reputation for mass
transit innovation (and distract attention from
his freebie ticket scandal), Mayor Antonio
Villaraigosa unveiled plans to convert
downtown's Angels Flight funicular to an $11.2-billion bullet train.

The idea won quick support from L.A. City Council members.

"One of the things we like about this project is
that it costs so darn much money," Councilman
Eric Garcetti said. "Let's face it – we're not

that good at fiscal responsibility, so it's
better to focus on what we do well."

Villaraigosa said the bullet funicular would
drastically cut travel time on the Angels Flight
Railway, a 298-foot track in Bunker Hill that
bills itself as the world's shortest railway.
"With the train's 200-mph speed, it's quite
possible – according to quantum theory – that

passengers will arrive at their destination before leaving," he said.

One problem.  The train they plan to use is 305 ft long. The tracks will have to be lengthened 7 feet at an extra  $263 million in cost.

If the track is only 298 Ft, how short is the train? I assume this is a misprint, or is it just a hoax.
