Dear list members

Happy New Year

2006 was the best year yet for RUF web site.

A total of 22.6 GBytes was downloaded from www.ruf.dk

I hope this will result in some real RUF projects :-)

Kind regards

That is great news that you have had that many hits.  I can track some of the activity of visitors to www.TriTrack.net and we share many common starting links.  On our site the visitor either spends about 2 minutes or they spend an hour looking around.  I tend to think the ones looking for an hour are our target audience.  I get a mix of international and US visitors that is split about 60% US, 8% Japan, 6% Canada, 3% Australia, 3% Islamic Republics, 3% Denmark, 2% United Kingdom, 2% Norway, 2% Korea and 1% each for Austria, Switzerland, Germany, India, Iceland, Italy, Poland and France leaving 3% for the rest of the world.  With the help of Silvertip Design's link we get a lot of European hits.  It appears we are blocked in China so far.

There are some things going on behind the scenes here in the US that are encouraging.  The results of those should be available for public distribution in the first quarter 2007.  I have a hard time understanding why the world is so slow at moving away from the oil calamity that is coming.  Our systems dramatically improve the longevity of oil and tremendously delay the fight over those drops of remaining oil so I do not understand the delay in action.  It is unprecedented in our lifetimes to do a paradigm shift in transportation but it would be wise to shift ahead of the economic disaster as oil production can't quite catch up to demand rather than to wait till the nations of the world start to square off over perceived scarce resources.  Doing more with what we have is just so much better.  The RUF does this as well as all the other design ideas on this discussion group.

Dear Palle,

Happy New Year

I too hope your downloads result in some real RUF projects and soon. Best
of luck.

The Silvertip Design website had a maximum 0.5 Gb of downloads even on
Christmas day. I did some searching around and suspect that the Christmas
interest is however unlikely to produce any REAL projects for us, just
virtual ones (image attached).

from: GTA - the biggest GrandTheftAuto - source

I am pleased with the interest but I do hope that they get the back end of
the vehicle steering sometime soon - there are video clips on my website to
help them.

Interesting videos , they provide a useful insight into RUF .
That applies for the junction simulation and the train-forming simulation too.

However I noticed something strange in a movie: In the video http://www.ruf.dk/real/varlose.rm

there is a platoon (or train) of vehicles travelling on the elevated guideway. It enters from the right and exits from the top edge of the screen travelling what seems to be 1-1.5 km in 20 seconds (or perhaps 40 if we assume that video runs at real time X 2).That seems ok since ruf guideway speeds are in the range 100-200km/h.

Simultaneously , a green dot (a maxi-ruf I presume) travels on the street .It leaves the guideway , it makes 9 stops and pics 10 passengers before returning back to the guideway , in a  breathtaking 27 seconds! Isn't that a bit too fast? After all maxi-ruf is similar to a bus when travelling on the road , isn't it?

Dear Chris

Sorry for the slow answer.

You are absolutely right about the timing.
The problem is, that to make such an animation (I do it myself) it can very quickly become VERY complex and time consuming.
The solution is to cheat, but of cause I should have made a note of it following the animation. It has been corrected now.

Thank you for letting me know.

Kind regards
