Dear Transition Towners,

There dont seem to be many people for whom insulating the loft is as
simple as it sounds. For example, my 1920s house has a low roof,
which slopes the corners of the bedrooms. I dont know how to insulate
these effectively. Also I have solid brick walls so cavity wall
insulation doesnt work.

I would just be interested to get a sense of how many people out there
think their house is awkward to insulate. Hence the idea of the
Awkward Insulation Club (AIC)! Comments welcome.

best wishes,
Emily Tomalin.

Hi Emily

This is just up our road. An architect can answer these questions. As for the club? I think all you need is a bit of advise from us. May be just a question and answer shcedule ( FAQ )that people can access it is all that is needed to begin with. I am happy to help.

Hello Emily
Sounds like a problem but should be able to do somthing, a company may be able to help, can you get a grant might worth looking into.
Have you got any insulation at all up there?
Mal

Re. Awkward Insulation

My loft is well insulated but I cant shove insulation down between the
roof and the sloping ceilings cos it would block all the air flow, that
i think is needed to keep the roof timbers OK.

Is there not something we can just glue to the inside roof surfaces, and
also the external walls which arent insulated? I've seen a nasty 2mm
sheet , I prefer 4-5 cm of something that you just cut as a sheet and
glue on? Or perhaps just move house? Or try and get a grant oh no not
another grant application!! But there are 12 houses in a row here all
single brick walls. I dont know how many others are similar in Maidenhead.
