Subject: Tell John Kerry: investigate corruption in the KXL pipeline review

http://www.foe.org
Tell John Kerry to investigate the blatant conflict of interest marring the environmental review of the Keystone XL pipeline.
Dear Susan,
In March, the State Department issued its environmental review of the dirty, dangerous Keystone XL pipeline. Ignoring the many studies which show that building the pipeline will accelerate climate change and endanger communities along its route, the State Department came to the outrageous conclusion that the pipeline will have minimal environmental impacts.
But it has now been revealed that the firm hired by the State Department to write this flawed review is a dues-paying member of Big Oil’s mouthpiece in Washington, the American Petroleum Institute. And, many of the sub-contractors hired by the firm to do the Keystone review have deep ties to the oil industry.
No wonder that the administration’s own Environmental Protection Agency has criticized the State Department’s report.

Please write Secretary of State John Kerry and demand that he halt the review of the Keystone pipeline until he investigates how a Big Oil contractor was allowed to author the environmental report on the Keystone XL pipeline!

The fact that the State Department ignored its own guidance and allowed a dues-paying member of the American Petroleum Institute to write the environmental review of the Keystone is scandalous enough. But making matters worse, State Department employees were actively involved in an attempt to cover up this firm’s ties to Big Oil.
Thanks to some intrepid reporting from Mother Jones, we know that someone in the State Department redacted the official disclosure forms that would have revealed these ties.

Tell Secretary of State John Kerry to investigate this attempted cover-up and hold State Department employees accountable for trying to whitewash Big Oil’s ties to the Keystone XL environmental review.

The stakes in this fight couldn’t be higher. We simply cannot allow the administration to decide whether to approve the Keystone XL pipeline based on a flawed environmental report written by Big Oil.

Write Secretary Kerry now and tell him to put a halt to the review until he can get to the bottom of this scandal at the State Department.

Thanks for taking action!

"Game over for the Planet" ?

Even if things reach the stage of returning to life at a microbial level, it's far from 'Game over for the planet' - What is Game Over; sooner or later, is materialistic, consumerist middle class hippie lifestyles - isn't that really what all this is really about?

Game over for the planet.  Yes, Hansen's words.   Fleas, cockroaches, rats & jellyfish set to do well with poisonous stinky hydrogen sulphide filling the air, ozone stripped from the atmosphere and acidifying, stagnant oceans.

Lack of sand eels already hugely  impacting bird life as oceans warm even at 400 ppm CO2  (highest for 3 and a half- 14 million years).   Need to get back to 350 ppm

Window of opportunity still open for low-carbon growth  (4%  a year)   and avoidance of fossil.  Exodus of frustrated politicians from the Govt as the blue old anachronisms take over in the UK.  Eco-illiteracy sadly rampant.

Yes, so what!? IF all that is true - 1. What can anyone really do about any of it? & 2. I reiterate the same point; it's not game over for the planet - it's game over for humanity/civilisation as it currently stands - give it 70 Million years or so (or a lot less time) & things will be OK on the planet again. It's not the planet that is at issue - it's this current culture.

We never really needed fossil fuels in the first place - & there has always been viable alternatives; especially regarding zero point energy.

& 'it's just a planet' - Billions of others in the Universe. Anyway - the whole mess that is this current culture I have little doubt will just grind on for at least another 200 years I expect; with all the same systems of stupidity. & this whole nonsense of blaming Governments, Industry, Corporations & the system - 'We' (the masses) are the system! Humanity has created 'all this', 'we' need only look in the mirror for who to blame.
