parts non-transitioners reach
Transition tent at public events - eg Basket weaving at 2pm ...
Big Green Fortnight + how to get involved - entertainment to publicise

PA21 Governement and council have to take notice. A few workers at the
core, other enthusiasts working on projectsFormal structure - Open
structure onto PA21
Flyer could advertise - publicity

Ian Challis BH14 Varied

Food

Actions or ideas for moving the topic forwards
Allotment situation in Bournemouth & Poole Councils - location,
waiting lists, plans for future Lindley
Tatnam Organic Patch - find out how it works and could be
replicated Helen
Hart Society in Christchurch, hoping to set up a gardening club
Claire
Availability of Community land in Bournemouth Jess
Availability of Community land in Poole Anna
Find out about Canford Cliffs market - why has it stopped ? Helen

In discussion afterwards, Tony Trent suggested that the housing
associations in poole might be persuaded to facilitate matching up
people who cannot or choose not to use their garden space, and those
with no gardens but keen to grow. Gary suggested this has been
working elsewhere and lessons could be learned. Several TransitionBH
people are active at Tatnam Patch (Gary, Andy, Mark, Jackie, Harriet)
so we can help Helen !

LETS/ Local Currencies/ Skills exchange
There is a national LETS development agency - need to explore more
LETS=Local Exchange Trading Systems
www.letslinkuk.org Local Exchange Trading & Complimentary Currency
scheme.
Bournemouth LETS meeting next tuesday to relaunch - need to attend and
see if we can introduce/replicate across the whole area. At Community
Centre in Springborne

Something you know or have for something you want or need.
Land in exchange for help or some of the food. 'Land Bank - Hugh
Fernley Whittingstall initiative'
How do you negotiate the going rate for exchange - convert everything
in terms of hours - if use money, eg ingredients for baking a cake,
add how long you have to work in order to pay for them.
'offers' and 'needs' - potentially start an embryonic group within
TransitionBH
Ask what people need, often people don't recognise the skills they
have, or perhaps take for granted.

Travel

Long list of topics were debated
Actions or ideas for moving the topic forwards
Home delivery - lending a trolley for the back of a push bike -
Waitrose in Romsey do this apparently
Mass Cycleride - 3rd week in June. Potentially linking something in
Poole Park with a venue in Bournemouth.
lovely to use the promenade, but also to reclaim the streets - close
a road or two. on a Sunday
- Kiko and Andy
Bus to work scheme - Free Breakfast from employer, possibility of
subsidised bus pass - Lindley
Pedestrianisation, Homezones and 20MPH - St Austell has a magic key
bollard for slowing residents and preventing through traffic -
Lindley

Other Travel ideas
Car free days - Sept 21st - European initiative, so little tends to
happen - could promote as a local event.
Example of Paris where certain roads are closed to traffic every
Sunday to enable people to enjoy using the streets
Socialising effect of walking and cycling - meeting and talking to
neighbours etc
Reclaim the streets - reallocate space - grass strips, cycleways,
public space, not just for cars
How do we travel less and persuade people to adopt this ?
Cycling - should build on the UK Olympic successes
Effectiveness of Average Speed Cameras, warning advisory 'your speed
is xx'

We did have a discussion about how one might redress the inbalance
between car park charges at Town and district centres, with free
parking at megastores. Don't want to encourage car use, but do want
local shops to survive. One idea was around tokens for free parking,
with perhaps each shop repaying part of the parking price - eg 10p per
£ spent.

People will exploit loopholes, eg given of taking the bus for free as
a pensioner into town, buying a 1 hour car park ticket, shopping in
the supermarket and reclaiming the 2 hour parking cost - profit from
both council and supermarket.

Hi all
Sorry for delay: Here's the action plan from the Big Green Fortnight subgroup:

We started by finding out what the Big Green Fortnight is all about.
For two weeks at the end of May (15th-31st) all sorts of green events
will be happening throughout the Bournemouth/Poole conurbation.
Supported by both Councils and organized through the Partnerships. We
can take the opportunity to promote Transition BH and the Transition values.
We came up with three ideas to work on:

1 Open day at Mark Spencer's forest wildlife garden in Branksome.
Sunday 24th May. With food and drinks (Mark would welcome help with that)

2 Party/gig with local musicians - Friday? Jacki to contact Centre
Stage to enrol them in organizing it.

3 Skill sharing stall at the main Big Green event (Pavilion Saturday
23rd?) - practical demonstrations of the skills we need to relearn to
prepare for a low-carbon future. Learning sessions on make do and
mend - knitting, darning, recycled shopping bag-making, bread-making,
food-growing, etc. Ian Challis to gather together ideas and compile a
list of skills and people willing to teach them. Claire Gingell to
ask Transition New Forest for people to help.
Other ideas - plant exchange (at Cherry Trees?), local food tasting,
building up the skills database, working with schools.

Harriet
P.S. I enjoyed the meeting. Good mix of discussion and action.
Looking forward to the next one.
