TRANSGENDER TALK
A call for help
Sunday, May 12, 2013 by: Mary Moss
One line can change someone’s life. I love you. Will you marry me? I
am pregnant. We need to talk. I am sorry.
Mom, I am transgender.
I have a request of all of you that you send one line for me. That
line is: Please let the Senators VOTE on GENDA NOW.
You see I have been telling you about GENDA (NY’s Gender Expression
Non-discrimination Act) I have expressed to you the importance of this
act for my son and all transgender people in New York. I don’t know
that you realize how important your voice could be.
The NY assembly has now passed GENDA for the 6th year in a row. BUT
the NY Senate has failed to pass it. It’s NOT that they have voted on
it and they failed; it’s that they never got the chance to vote on it.
Senator Skelos (the Senate majority leader) has refused to even put it
to the NY Senate floor for a vote. Why? I don’t know, and right now I
don’t care what his agenda is. I only care that the NY Senate get the
chance to vote on it. I believe IF voted on it will pass. But we are
running out of time. The Senate will break for the Summer in a few
weeks. We need your one line NOW.
So I have one simply request for all of you. I know it’s time
consuming to craft an email and to find your NY Senator’s name and
email. I have a very simple way you can have your voice heard and get
GENDA to the Senate floor. It’s about one line. This one line will
forever change not only my son’s life but hundreds of others.
I am asking that you go to your email and put Senator Skelos’s email
in the TO line:
ske...@nysenate.gov and simply put in the subject
line: Please let the Senator’s VOTE on GENDA NOW.
That’s it. It will literally take 2 seconds of your life, but it will
add many years to my son’s life and many many others. Let’s flood
Senator Skelos’s email Monday morning and throughout the week with
emails saying simply: Please let the Senator’s VOTE on GENDA NOW.
He’ll have no choice but to see it, and I believe it will finally have
a chance to be voted on and I believe it will pass.
One line can change someone’s life. Please email your one line now. I
am begging you.
Until next time.
