From Anna to Andy: Guy to document transition

Serkan Ozturk

To coincide with this year’s Transgender Day of Remembrance, actor,
filmmaker and transman, Andrew Guy, will launch a trailer from his
upcoming feature documentary that takes a look at his gender
transition process from being Anna to Andy.

Guy will release an excerpt of It’s Not About The Sex via
crowdsourcing website Pozible this Tuesday and is also seeking to
raise $80,000 to help cover the costs for his final gender affirmation
procedure in San Francisco, USA.

Guy tells SX he hopes to undergo and document the phalloplasty surgery
next June, with the procedure currently not provided by the Australia
medical profession nor supported by Medicare or any private health
insurance company.

“In this process of an eight hour surgery skin is grafted from the
forearm and made into a phallo and is micro-surgically attached to
your lower region, specifically focusing on the micro nerve
attachment,” he says.

“It’s an important part of the process and little coverage is out
there about it, hence why as well as needing it for myself to feel
complete, it can be an educational tool for the future people in the
community.”

Guy is hopeful the film will screen at festivals and also be provided
to government departments, medical institutions, schools and others as
an educational and awareness resource upon its completion.

Donations of over $100 are tax deductible thanks to support provided
to the film by the Australian Business Arts Foundation and the
Documentary Australia Foundation.
