Hi Virgil Crest runners and pacers. To the rest of you, please ignore or better yet join us on Sept 22nd for a good time in Upstate NY.

The Virgil Crest site advertises discount lodging at the ski resort lodge that is located at the start/finish of the race https://bookings.ihotelier.com/Hope-Lake-Lodge-and-Indoor-Waterpark/bookings.jsp?hotelId=73875

It looks pretty sweet and is walking distance from the finish line (very important). They offer condos for up to 10 people and all of their condos have their own kitchens and access to the indoor water park, where I plan to bathe immediately after I finish.

Are any of you interested in going in on a place? I think Sara and Ava (the wife and daughter) are coming with me. Lets get this together party people!!

The place looks amazing. I'm waiting to hear back from a friend
regarding travel/lodging logistics but at this point it looks like
we're going to be taking this adventure on the cheap (slightly sketchy
pre-ultra motel on Fri., running all night Sat, and camping if we're
not heading back on Sunday night. )

Many thanks for sending this invite and I'll keep checking the
reponses as they come in If enough people are interested in packing
the love den it might just work out....would be fun to get kicked out
of the waterpark with you after the race. If not hopefully we can hook
up for a bit when we get down there on Friday afternoon.

I'm still trying to figure out the details of when I get there and come back. Right now it looks like I'll be driving down on Friday afternoon for a late-ish arrival Friday night (8:00PM?), not sure if I'm driving alone or with anyone else. I anticipate running with Dave between 8PM Saturday and 10 AM Sunday (so neither of us needs a room that night. If Dave doesn't finish until 12:00 on Sunday then he/we will need a place to shower and sleep for the night, because neither of us are going to to be up for driving home that day. If he finishes at 8AM then we probably would head back, although we would wait for Jordan to finish the 50k which probably won't be until after 12:00.

 

If we pay for two nights in the Love Den I'd want to be sure that we can get in on Sunday to get cleaned up, even if we end up camping Sunday night.

I'm gonna forward your original post to George and Ann; I don't think they are on the forum for some reason.  They had told us about the place they stayed in Cortland last year and were happy with.  Even though I'm partying with the 50ers watching the big dogs come in, I'd like to have a room for Sat. night (get washed up, steal a few winks, etc.).  Squirrel and I were gonna go over the options on our long run on Saturday.  When do you need a decision by?

Do we have a head count of peeps interested in the love den?  I am in for fri and sat nite (hopefully with late sun checkout) if the cost is reasonable.  Sounds like George and Ann have plans to stay at a hotel in Cortland. Thoughts?

Its all on the Virgil Website as I said. $279 a night, sleeps 6. that is $46 a night. full kitchen, right at the start/finish, a real bed etc.
I'm staying there regardless of who else is. I just thought if we combined forces we'd save money and have fun.

An 8 person room works out to $40 per person per night. You can't beat that with a stick.

Dave - it looks like we have 5 without you but if you, Jordan and his girl want to jump in that will bring us up to 8. If Sara and Ava end up coming that's 10 ($38 per person).

Mary is out. Jordan is in. This would put us one over if the numbers
are correct. I don't mind crashing on the floor but don't want to rock
the boat for anyone as far as hotel policy goes....

Mindy, Jordan, and I can get work something else out if it allows for
Sara and Ava to come and fill the den at an even 8. If not maybe
Jordan can take my spot and Mindy and I can camp out....whatever we
have to do to make it work.

I know there's a kitchen, but pre-race dinner I might like to head to Cortland to Hairy Tony's.  Word has it that's where George and Ann will be heading for a beer and burger.  Sounds fun :)

I would be inclined to stay at the nest, to (1) save $$ and (2) enjoy what appears to be a pretty nice place.  I have tomatoes coming in, and I could bring a big pot of marinara to contribute to a pasta feed.
