Beginning at 7pm Wednesday (5/23) crews from the Maine Department of Transportation will be replacing a broken storm water pipe which crosses the
Loring Memorial Trail. This work will continue overnight until 7am, then resume again Thursday night and should be complete by Friday morning. The trail will be closed overnight, but open during the day. The Bayside Trail at the base of Loring will also be obstructed by staging for the project. When complete the drain pipe will alleviate recurring drainage problems at the base of the trail. Portland Trails, Friends of Eastern Promenade, City of Portland and MaineDOT are partnering on this project.

Many of you might have noticed that the
Presumpscot River trail has been closed since late April where it passes under the I95 Falmouth spur. The Maine Turnpike Authority is rebuilding the bridge and the project likely won’t wrap up until late next spring. Please do the construction workers and yourselves a favor and don’t disregard the no-passing signs and go around the barriers. Now is a particularly dangerous time with the demolition of the old bridge.
Another big turnpike project upstream has just been completed that includes parking and a new trail connection under the Route 26 bridge. This, combined with our recent bridge rehabilitation work in the Presumpscot River Preserve, will provide a greater trail experience once the I95 spur bridge finally opens next year!
