Hi again,

Now that I have [http://groups.google.com/group/trac-users/t/
901ef327b448b496] resolved, I'm planning to start the spanish
translation on some Trac resorces (inspired in Dutch and Polish
translations).

My motivation?, Trac is now installed on my university's servers but
adoption is hard to no-speak-english students.

Provided that there are already three translations in [http://trac-
hacks.org], I wonder ''where I can host this project?''. I can host
this by myself (initially), but maybe (latter) its better to host
where anyone can help.

I'm planning to start with Trac 0.10.3.1 (that's our current
instalation).

Must I contact Alec Thomas personally?

Thanks,

trac-hacks.org seems to be a good candidate.

I won't recommend this: knowing that the templating system has been
changed (from Clearsilver to Genshi), it would be better to start from
0.11 rather than 0.10.x.
0.11 is stable enough, from my point of view.

No simply create a new translation project on trac-hacks.org (follow
the instructions on the web site). I would recommend you follow the
naming convention used by the other translation projects to name your
own work.

OK, then it will be on http://trac-hacks.org

Good point, however, I urgently need 0.10.x translation since services
in our servers are already in production (I made a configuration aka
DrProject and I even modified AccountManager to reduce risk in
student's daily use, since it's our first collective experience).

I'm going to work in 0.10.x (for legacy purposes) with greater
priority while I familiarize with Genshi, and in 0.11 (it has somewhat
larger future). Since ClearSilver has been replaced, that means less
than double effort, I hope.

Last point (but not least), I recieved mail from someone else
interested in helping with the translation. That means less mistakes
and better quality. We're going to join efforts to start work as soon
as posible.

Greetings,

For those interested in spanish translation, I found valuable
contributions in:
* http://trac.edgewall.org/wiki/TracTermsEs

This page has been a work in progress since 2005-03-10 (and it looks
forward to a Spanish-localized version of Trac) and numerous people
have contributed, I think this is definitively our starting point. It
still has some ''loose ends'' but they can be fixed.

We must consider ''right side'' suggestions and agree in definitive
translations first.

A suggested strategy: Lets deliberate conflictive terms in this
mailing list (we can use this already created thread), once we are
agree in a conflictive term, we can publish it in http://trac.edgewall.org/wiki/TracTermsEs
again (somehow weak, but maybe enough QA). In the meantime, we could
use the suggested translation, and then, uniform the translation.

Catch another one!, two people have already expressed spanish
translation, see:
* http://trac.edgewall.org/ticket/1641 (closed, maybe we can reopen
this ticket as context has changed and now is valid)
* http://trac.edgewall.org/ticket/3443 (closed)

I think we must contact the ticket submiters, as they expressed
spanish translation first.

¿Opinions?

I did a complete translation of trac-0.9.2 to spanish and catalan applying the
patches that you can find on http://trac.edgewall.org/wiki/TracL10N, but I'm
no longer updating the patch nor the translations (I'm using current versions
in english); probably you will need a lot of work to update the translations,
but if you want to use them feel free to do it.

To get the code and the translations you can get the source of the
debian package I used to maintain from:

svn export https://lliurex.net/svn/lliurex-pool/debian-backports/trunk/trac

The patches are inside the debian/patches dir, the translated templates are
inside the debian/templates-es directory and the spanish po file is inside
the debian/trac-po dir.

Sorry about the delay. http://trac-hacks.org/wiki/TracSpanishTranslation
started in 05/29/07 09:01:53

I've already taken a look at Sergio's work, it's about Trac engine ans
templates translating, I haven't found wiki-default translation.

About Trac engine translating I have one question to the Trac Team:

Is there a already planned strategy to provide L10n in Trac?.

Sergio's work provided me an interesting strategy, less intrusive, to
provide translating of the Trac Engine. It provides a file trac/
l10n.py wich is responsable of the translation and a file trac-po/es
wich contain the translations (though I haven't tested this yet).

Instead of this Duth and French Translation (wich also provide Trac
engine translation) do the translation directly into the code (wich I
consider more intrusive).

Meanwhile, I'm creating a patch, as Dutch Translation, to provide
Spanish translating of the Trac Engine (it will be aimed to 0.10-
stable branch).

Templates will be translated per file, for 0.10-stable branch, and
trunk (0.11dev) (for easiest install and update).

Section wiki-default of 0.10.x (trac/wiki/default-pages in 0.11)
requires direct translation. I've noticed very few differences between
0.10-stable branch and trunk (0.11dev), so I will start with 0.10-
stable ans then will go forward to trunk.

Expect some uploads in TracSpanishTranslation this week (into the
repository I mean).

Nobody gave a response, but Jeroen Ruigrok van der Werven stated
something about it (Babel?):

:-) patchs in place for 0.10-stable, see:
* http://trac-hacks.org/wiki/TracSpanishTranslation

:-P ... As stated before, I decided for the more intrusive solution.

:-P .. for 0.10-stable, patch solution was choosed again.

IMPORTANT:
Take a watch to http://trac-hacks.org/ticket/1691 before giving a try,
then decide by yourself.

Caballeros,

please see
http://trac.edgewall.org/browser/sandbox/i18n/trac/locale/es_ES/LC_MESSAGES/messages.po

and supply me with additions/changes. I think I did a reasonably first version
given my rusty Spanish skills. I tried to keep
http://trac.edgewall.org/wiki/TracTermsEs in mind when doing some
translations, but obviously I do lack a sense of 'feeling' when would be the
almost perfect translation. I did keep in mind the feeling though and not try
to make it sound too artificial, but I am sure I mistranslated some things.

Also, since Babel is still evolving, some broken up sentences now might be
hard to properly translate, if this is the case, please focus on the other
things first. Babel will most likely change the way it handles these
sentences.

Also, not all terms and such are in the files yet, I'm working on this. If
possible, please coordinate things through the es_ES translation ticket:
http://trac.edgewall.org/ticket/5469

Gracias,

I'd be glad to contribute. I though about getting the latest revision of
the file from trac's svn
and just commit the changes. Would that work for you? :)

Commit the changes? I do not think you have commit access, so you would have
to send me a diff, or attach it to the ticket (#5469).

And of course I want better Spanish translations. Otherwise all you Spaniards
will have to read my "fantastic" translations. >:)

Just keep in mind my note about those split up lines, that's an open item for
Babel currently.

yep, u're right... well i'll try to fix first the available translations and send u the

Oh my!, missed shoot at point-blank. A new brand Edgewall project!,
that's why "know-it-all" Google didn't found it yet. Lest's make
enough noise to make all know about it.

I'll give a check to http://trac.edgewall.org/browser/sandbox/i18n/trac/locale/es_ES/LC_MESSAGES/messages.po

About http://trac.edgewall.org/wiki/TracTermsEs , I personally found
it very reduced; that's why I annotated another terms and expressions
in http://trac-hacks.org/browser/tracspanishtranslation/0.10/es-terms.txt
(of course this needs improvements).

See you in http://trac.edgewall.org/ticket/5469 ,
