is a log of my latest attempt to make a dvd with a static menu even
when i tried with an animated menu it failed at the same spot in the
same fashion. the log:

Strange that the ffmpeg output stops there at

"Press [q] to stop, [?] for help"

What happens when you run this command from a terminal - ie. what is the
output and does "ffmpeg -i /tmp/dummy.ac3" confirm the file is created
and is an ac3 file ?

ffmpeg \
-f s16le \
-i /dev/zero \
-t 0.968 \
-ab 224k \
-ar 48000 \
-acodec ac3 \

-y /tmp/out.ac3

thanks,

Er, sorry I meant confirm /tmp/out.ac3 obviously.

a out.ac3 does get created in /tmp and it has a size of 0b.

Okay, so ffmpeg basically segfaults. Have you upgraded ffmpeg or
anything else on your machine in the time interval since ffmpeg was
working for you ? The code that ffmpeg trys to run and fails has not
changed in a long time, so the fault is clearly not the new SVN version
of todisc. Best I can do I think is point you at your ffmpeg and
hopefully you can find a solution - upgrade, downgrade, recompile etc.

i kinda figured that ffmpeg was the source of the problem. i was at
git version 30869-gfd2c0a5 i tired updating to latest igt
version(31019-g5c13b5b) but same issue. wend back a few version to
30179-g8d95317 and now it works again. thank you for your help.

I have redirected this answer to there. As well you should always
include the tovid version that you are using and having a problem with.
As well as the full command you were trying to run and logs and screen
output. When you are trying to debug something too much information is
better then too little, or as often happens, none at all :) Read on...

This is an ffmpeg bug that tovid 0.34 has a work-around for. Upgrade to
0.34 or svn tovid. The workaround is to add -ar 48000 again to the
ffmpeg command BEFORE the -i /dev/zero:
ffmpeg -f s16le -ar 48000 -i /dev/zero -t 0.968 -ab 224k -ar 48000 -
acodec ac3 \
- y /tmp/out.ac3
This appears in several places in todisc, so upgrading is your best
best.

all the best,
grepper
