Hi All,

TortoiseSVN commit and directory listing in repo browser is slow in a system. For all other PCs TorttoiseSVN is working fine .I know that a latest version 1.7.12.24 is available for download. Is it support Subversion 1.6.5 ?

Version : 1.7.4  ( Windows 7 64bit)

Subversion 1.6.5

Jithin

does the other pc use the same 1.7.4 version? IMO, it is better to update to the latest version if you found a problem, so that we can be sure that it is not a known bug.

FYI, the server protocol is backward compatible, so you can upgrade your client safely. beside, 1.7.4 and 1.7.12 use the same branch of subversion, so there is no problem to upgrade.

Hi Gabry,

First off all thank you very much for the fast response. Yes, the other PC also use the same 1.7.4 version. If the 1.7.12 is compatible with Subversion 1.6.5 then I will upgrade my TortoiseSVN to the latest. And let me check whether the issue exist or not.

Thank you.

All 1.x client versions are compatible with all 1.x servers. So, yes, and 1.7.x client will work with 1.6.x server.

Although, there have been several fixes for 1.6.x wrt to merging and security... so you might want to upgrade you server to 1.6.21.

Also, 1.8.0 is due in a month or so, they just started the release candidate soak period... which means 1.6.x won't be supported anymore with fixes/security updates.

Hi Bob,

Thank for the information.

However installing the latest version of TortoiseSVN doesnt solve my issues. It still exists. Can you please suggest me any performance optimization tips for TortoiseSVN ?

You might want to start another thread with your specific issue... but general tips are:

1. Only check out at the level you need, don't check out the whole repository or project... just check out a single trunk or branch.

2. Disable any anti-virus on-access scanners on your development root.

3. Disable windows search indexing on your development root.

4. Ensure your working copies are on the PCs local file system and not a network path.

Other than the above, faster hard drives, SSD highly preferred.

I see from the subject your speed issues seem to be with network/server access items. So, yea... the above tips "may" help but sounds like your server/network may need some love. What protocol do you use? Svn or Http? The 1.7 server does have some HTTP perf improvments so if you can get it updated it "may" help.

Hi Bob,

We use HTTPS. I don't think its a server / network issues because issue found only in one PC. Anyway please let me try by disabling Antivirus.
