most textboxes support this short cut to select the whole contents and i got VERY used to it for the purpose of replacing the whole contents , so much that i stumble over the lack of this in the log dialog's filter text box.
yes, i now there is the X button on the right of the box but being a keyboard junky that avoids the mouse it is very far away.
a short cut to move the selection to the filter box would be great too, such as alt+f, or so.

The problem here is that it isn't that easy to do, and many users don't
notice where the focus is on a dialog with so many controls. It's easy
on word processor apps or webbrowsers where there's really only one
'control' where Ctrl-A works. But the log dialog is different.

Ctrl-L, Alt-D
both work now.
In the next nightly build, also Ctrl-K will work since that's the key
Firefox uses to switch to the 'search' box.
