Hi,

I got an issue when making a right click on the Explorer and selecting
Tortoise/<any options>
I got a message box :

TortoiseProc Launch failed
Le fichier spécifié est introuvable which means "the specified file is
unreachable".

If i made an update on an existing repo, it's ok ; i can download files.
But i can't create a new one, or relocate one...

I'm using the last version (1.6.2.16344) on Vista (SP2)
The "path" is ending with "C:\Program Files\TortoiseSVN\bin"

in command line, if i write "tortoiseproc", i get the TortoiseSVN window

Hope you can find a solution to this issue !

Regards

Try reinstalling TSVN (uninstall, reboot, install again, reboot).
This seems to be a messed up installation since you're the only one
having such an issue.

Hi Stefan    ,

I forgot to write it yesterday, but i uninstall (succesfully i think) tortoise and reinstall it.
and the problem was still there...

So i uninstall it another time and look deep in the registry ("regedit") to remove all tortoiseSVN point.
Install it... and still the problem...

Try disabling your virus scanner/firewall/whatever'security'appyouhave
and then install/run TSVN again.

I also received this error after updating to the latest TortoiseSVN. I managed to solve it. Here are the details:

1. I successfully did "SVN update" with TortoiseSVN-1.6.7.x (not 100% sure what version I had, but it was fairly new). I've used TortoiseSVN successfully for a few years now. I'm on Windows Vista Business 32-bit SP2 (ENG). Running Windows Security Essentials.

2. TortoiseSVN saying reported that there is a newer version. I updated (without uninstalling first) to TortoiseSVN-1.6.9.19725-win32-svn-1.6.12.msi. No other updates to Windows recently (including no Windows updates in the background).
Download URL: http://ignum.dl.sourceforge.net/project/tortoisesvn/Application/1.6.9/TortoiseSVN-1.6.9.19725-win32-svn-1.6.12.msi

3. Did *not* restart the computer.

4. Tried to use TortoiseSVN, e.g. "SVN log". Received the error dialog:

"TortoiseProc Launch failed: The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log for more detail."

All "TortoiseSVN" submenu options gives this including "TortoiseSVN -> Help".

5. Restarted the computer.

6. Still recieving the error.

7. Scanned the Windows Registry with CCleaner. There was nothing related to TortoiseSVN, but I cleaned out all issues anyway.

8. Still recieving the error.

9. Uninstalled TortoiseSVN via the Windows Control Panel. Confirmed that there was nothing left.

10. Restarted Windows.

11. Removed %ProgramFiles%/TortoiseSVN/, because it contained a BerkeleyDB License.txt.

12. Scanned the Windows Registry with CCleaner. Detected: "Unknown File Extension *.patch", and 3 "Missing MUI References" for TortoiseProc.exe, TortoisePlink.exe and TortoiseMerge.exe". Cleanup again.

13: Reinstalled above TortoiseSVN.

14. "TortoiseSVN -> Help" and "TortoiseSVN -> Show log" works now, even before restarting the computer.

15. Restarted the computer.

Not sure if Steps 11-12 are needed.

I have been getting the dreaded "TortoiseProc failed to launch" error. The error occurs when I upgrade TortoiseSVN 1.7.3 to 1.7.4 or 1.7.5. When I go back to 1.7.3 everything is fine again. I have tried the posted solution described below but, unfortunately, it does not work for me.

I run TortoiseSVN under Windows 7.

Here are few additional facts that may be relevant:
1.) After I upgrade to 1.7.4/5, when I right-click on the local copy of an archive, I cannot see the Commit or Update commands in the pop-up menu. The number of items under the TortoiseSVN submenu is very small (Repo Browser, Settings, Help, and About).
2.) If I click on any of the available TortoiseSVN commands, I get a dialog "TortoiseProc Launch failed: The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect."
3.) If I right-click on the desktop (or another folder not linked to Tortoise) I see more items in the TortoiseSVN pop-up menu (Repo-browser, Export, Create repository here, Import, Settings, Help, and About)
4.) If I right-click on the desktop and select Repo-browser, TortoiseSVN launches the Repo-browser and tries to direct it to a URL on the clipboard. For example, if I first copy www.google.com, the Repo-browser suggest the URL http://www.google.com/. When the clipboard does not contain a URL, the Repo-browser suggests the most recent correct repository URL and successfully opens the repository in the browser.
5.) If I navigate to ~\Program Files\TortoiseSVN\bin and launch any of the *.exe files by double-clicking they launch without complaint.

I am hoping someone can suggest a cure for this before I fall too far behind the current TortoiseSVN release.

Thank you,

Ludger

I just installed TortoiseSVN 1.7.6 (released yesterday?) and seem to have resolved my problems with "TortoiseProc failed to launch".

Point 4 below still applies, however. I suspect this is a feature (not a symptom of trouble) that I was not aware of. I can certainly see how this could be useful.

That's not a bug but a feature (seriously!).
Most times the repo browser is started from a working copy and then no
url has to be entered.
In cases where an url has to be entered, we assume that the user copies
the url e.g. from a web page. TSVN therefore scans the clipboard for
such an url and fills in that url automatically. And it does that not
just for the repo browser but other dialogs like the checkout dialog as
well.
The previously used urls are still available in the combo box though, so
if you don't want to use the url from the clipboard you still can browse
through the url history and choose one from there.
