I work at mDialog, a Toronto startup building video streaming platform
for TV companies and cable providers using Scala. I feel like we've
been doing some pretty interesting stuff lately and I'd love to get
together with some other Scala devs and hear what you're working on.
I'd like to offer up our office space in downtown Toronto (411
Richmond St East, just east of Sherbourne on Richmond) for a meet up
if there's any interest. I (or one of our other developers) would be
happy to do short talk on some of the tools and techniques we've been
using to build our platform and it'd be great to hear from a couple of
other teams out there as well. We can supply food and drinks.
If you're interested, let me know. I'm thinking second week of May,
possibly the 10th. Thoughts?
We're also hiring developers right now (who isn't?) and Scala
experience is considered a definite asset.

Looks like it! Glad to see there's this much interest. Let's confirm some details:
Toronto Scala Meetup
Where: mDialog Offices, 411 Richmond St E, Suite 208 (near Richmond/Sherbourne)
Date: Thursday, May 10th
Time: Arrive 6pm, talks begin at 6:30pm
Ideally, I'd like to see 3 or 4 speakers each with an informal 20 min presentation plus few minutes at the end for questions. As I mentioned, mDialog will be happy to provide one of the presentations, but I'd really like to hear about the kind of work all of you are doing and how you're using Scala. We'll provide drinks, some food, wifi, a screen for presentations and a place for everyone to sit. If you've got any specific needs or requests, please let me know. We'll do our best to take care of it.
If you're interested in presenting, please send along a note and I'll pencil you in. Once we've collected enough presenters I'll send out an email with the topics and schedule—ideally, by the end of this week.
To try and reach as wide an audience as possible I've also posted the meetup here:
> Alright, it looks like all we needed was the talk of a meetup for people to come out of the woodwork.

We've got three presentations all set for the May 10 meetup, but I'd love to schedule one more. If anyone out there is interesting in giving a 15-20 minute talk on how you're using Scala, please let me know.

Sure, good question. We've got three volunteers so far:
- I'll be speaking about building asynchronous HTTP with Akka 2.0
- Tom Switzer has volunteered to speak about Spire, a Scala numerics library
- Stuart Watt has volunteered to speak about working with Spray and liftweb-mongo-record

Hi,
I'm working in downtown TO as well and would like to know if there is going to be another one?
