DON'T FIGHT IT, FEEL IT!
Thursday, June 28th, 2007
the Tranzac
doors - 8pm
TICKETS: $10 in advance (available at soundscapes and rotate this)
$12 at the door
DON'T FIGHT IT, FEEL IT is a fundraiser with all proceeds going
towards
sound insulation at the Tranzac. The music features the merging of
some
of Toronto's best musicians playing soul, spirituals and dance music.
The evening includes performances by Bruce Peninsula, Steel Door,
Secret
Recipe and New Jacksandro 70
BRUCE PENINSULA is rooted deeply in old folk spirituals. Its members
seek to explore old artifacts, scraps of sound and archaic forms with
the hope of recontextualizing their essential qualities for modern
ears.
Bruce Peninsula is a unique, strange band, with rich histories running
through it. Dreamt up by Misha Bower and Matt Cully in the summer of
2006, the band has slowly built upon the Alan Lomax archives that
initially inspired them, veering off in a new direction every time a
new
member or instrument is added to the mix. Through time and
circumstance,
there are now nine talented members each bringing something unique to
the group. With it's constant reinterpretation of itself and delivery
with conviction, it is no wonder they have created such a name for
themselves.

STEEL DOOR is the amalgamation of some of this city's finest musicians
most known for their outside approaches to music. For this event, they
will be coming together to play soul ballads in 6/8 time. Anyone who
loves soul and is familiar with these musicians' work knows...this is
not to be missed.

Alex Lukashevsky - guitar/vocals
Brody West - saxophone
Lina Allemano - trumpet
Colin Fisher - guitar
Nick Storring - cello
Mantler - wurlitzer
Natalka Proszak - vocals
Chris Banks - bass
Blake Howard - drums
SECRET RECIPE finds Anne Rust D'Eye and Jonathan Adjemian (both of
Jon-Rae and the River) alongside Chris Banks of the Deborahs and Blake
Howard who is best known for his work in Rock Plaza Central. They will
be performing early soul covers of Sam Cooke. With Rust D'Eye's
powerful
vocals and the solidity and soul skill of Adjemian, Banks and Howard,
this is set to knock you over.
Anne Rust D'Eye - Vocals
Jonathan Adjemian - Piano
Chris Banks - Bass
Blake Howard - Drums
NEW JACKSANDRO 70 is Sandro Perri and Craig Dunsmuir who have worked
together in the past as the acclaimed Glissandro 70. This time around
they will be taking over the Tiki room of the tranzac playing the
roles
of dj and selector with Dunsmuir's recreations of popular dance music.

HSCaLE & Here's My Card Records presents:
NOISE TORONTO 2007
Thursday July 5th
Rancho Relaxo
300 College St.
Doors 9:30pm $5
Show 10pm
Noise music is sound inside and outside the boundaries of rhythm,
tune, melody and harmony.
Based on the work of John Cage, Stockhausen, Merzbow and Reich
these current performers all interpret the landscape of sound in their
own manner and with their own (figurative) blood. The performers
employ a wild and exotic array of equipment from an ocean of guitar
pedals and electronics (both analog and digital) to contact
microphones to steel. Join Toronto's noise scene as the artists all
gather, on one night, in one room, to fill it with a solid sea of
sound. Earplugs are recommended.

Tuesday July 10
at Mitzi's Sister
1554 Queen St. West, Toronto
9:30 pm
Toronto's anti-New Music new music ensemble plays the second show of
their monthly series at Mitzi's Sister, with the Chris Warren Trio
opening at 9:30.
The Parkdale Revolutionary Orchestra, the anomalous sextet comprised
of Alex Cheung, violin, Jennifer Wardle, sax, Kerri McGonigle, cello,
Michael Kaler, bass, Mike Rosenthal, drums, and fronted by acclaimed
soprano Kristin Mueller-Heaslip, was formed in 2005 as an alternative
to the manifestly flawed conventions and structures surrounding the
realization of art music.
By taking their blend of rich, minimalistic texture and technically
brilliant, dramatically convincing performance to Toronto's clubs,
performance venues, art galleries, and parties, the Parkdale
Revolutionary Orchestra is proving that sophisticated, intellectually
engaging music isn't the exclusive property of an academic elite, and
that art music is more capable of flourishing beyond the confines and
social limitations of traditional concert halls than it is within
them.
This performance will feature both original compositions and edgy
reworkings of material ranging from Brian Eno to goth hero Karl Mohr
to the art-punk band Wire.
