I'm guessing the NDA precludes the developer from sharing any new
information... but I've done enough reading and researching to
discover what I think is the reason the app was removed.
I imagine it's then same reason BigBucket's Tomatometer web app (and
dashboard widget) was disabled:

The licensing terms of RT restrict "full searches;" third party
software is only licensed to use what's in the syndicated feed (ie:
Tomatometer scores of current releases.) Fox/IGN probably complained
and got it pulled. :(
Similar discussion going on about this on MacRumors forum, and how it
relates to the "Box Office" app:

I am sad that I had no backup of Tomatoes.app, I had to do a restore
and lost my copy of this app. I suppose my question is... would it
still work if I still have it installed? Or would it be broken, just
like the aforementioned web app? (I'd feel better about losing it, if
it were the latter. ;) )
In any case, I hope Fox/IGN offer their own version of this sometime.
If they don't, it's really crappy that they forced this one to
disappear.
