Akiba,

At what store did you buy the Low Temperature Pasteurized Cow Milk
that you used during the cheese-making class?

Thanks,

Jud

It's Takanashi low temperature pasteurized milk. You can find it at a bunch
of supermarkets. I've enclosed pics of it.

Good info.

Speaking of milk for cheese, is it ever possible to buy raw milk in Japan?  Or do you essentially need your own goat for that?

That’s one of the reasons we’re doing the hackerfarm.

Just located a source for raw (cow's) milk.  Farmer in my town.  Says as long as I'm not selling it covered in labels like "AWESOME MILK FROM X GUY AT Y FARM AT Z ADDRESS PENSION NUMBER ABC" that I'm fine to do what I want with it.

Anyone want some?  You'll have to bribe me out to Tokyo, or come visit me to get it.  :P

Didn't ask, but I doubt the number is low.  The guy said he basically sells to MegMilk every evening, so if I come by in person during the day, they have heaps around and I can purchase some for my hobbies.  It's a 24-cow dairy, so their production is probably in the high hundreds to low thousand(s) of liters per day.  As long as I don't make a noticeable impact on that...it's probably fine?

How much would you want?

Late reply to this thread, but I know a farmer in Kamogawa who will
also provide raw milk in small quantities. They're the ones who are
trying to get into cheese making.
