I think it is high time to cancel this order and get them from other places.
What's your take?

I showed Taylan at the meeting, but http://www.aisan.co.jp/ is a store
in Akihabara that advertises RFID and sells in less-than-bulk orders.
Perhaps it's a better avenue?

And, as Pieter pointed out before, LadyAda has RFID goods in stock.
https://www.adafruit.com/index.php?main_page=adasearch&q=RFID
If we order the Mifare tag assortment and take advantage of the
hackerspace discount, we can do on the cheap.

I too say that lets cancel that order and get those printed ones. If possible. I just started hating those guys. Like really really hate.

I have to check out that shop in person this weekend, the website looks really weird to me, couldn't find anything. But will look for 125 kHz cards over there.

Also as a note: Current system has readers for EM4100 compatible (125 kHz) cards which only contain an ID number (5 bytes). If we go for Mifare cards, we have to get readers for them too, at least 2 of them (one for the door and one for adding/editing cards on the system). We will again use the ID number but this time 4 bytes. + Mifare cards are usually a little bit more expensive.

Well, however we go is up to you. Everything is ready on my side, just waiting for the cards. But if we switch to another reader, I may need some time to get that added to the system.

lol!
the other night I watched this: http://www.ted.com/talks/neil_harbisson_i_listen_to_color.html
quite cool :)

and totally a special for THS, we could just make it a DIY workshop , it is actually very easy.
he did not have professional support and made a mess (IMO, quickly judging from pics, I didn't re-read the article now) but still:

Ok..

I will send them a mail requesting a cancel.
Might take them a week or two to respond ;)

And Mikel: I ABSOLUTELY want one implanted in my hand or forearm.

Hehehe, I'll try to check out the shop in Akihabara and if they don't have the ones I need or it is really expensive I'll go with the eBay offer.

I want one implanted in my **** so I have an excuse for waving it around!

Ahhh sorry Taylan to say,  but they are not that small.... But seriously there are stickers too.  Should fit behind the battery cover of mobile phones.

Unless you don’t have access to the toilet. Or possibly, we could have implanted RFID not for toilet flushes but for toilet paper. Free flushes but 100 yen for paper. We’d make a killing.

This is now an issue with me.

I will not pay to be a member of a club to which I have access only on
"everything is free for everyone" night.

I stopped by on Saturday to find a locked door.

Not good.

we could get the secret code to access the secret box with the secret key
that is the secret side of the story.

on a side note, I am not sure I can joint tonight, but I will try.
to be sure the door is open, I will be late.

We really need them now- I don't think we can wait for the ebay ones. the office folks are pretty stressed about this now.
So if you can get in Akihabara even if they are a bit more it is better.

Hi Jud,

Let me know tonight and I'll show you the double-secret handshake.

That offer goes for any paid-up member, btw.

Not mifare, those work at 13.56 MHz and usually have crypto and storage capabilities. WE use EM4100 readers which work at 125 kHz. Here is the lonk to the reader we use: http://www.seeedstudio.com/depot/125khz-rfid-module-uart-p-171.html?cPath=144_153

Today I added all the cabling together. One problem, the cable of my wall wart does not reach from the closes outlet to the door. I'll have to get an extension cable, about 2.5 m I guess (think as from the server room to the door). Another thing is we need an ethernet cable, from the server room to the door. If Todd or others can supply it, great! Otherwise tell me and I'll crimp a cable, have some cable but not sure if it can cover the distance.

Other than that I couldn't find MRE's button so I borrowed a suitable one from a box inside the cabin and soldered it to the circuitry, that'll do for now, later we can switch the button to the proper one.

I'll go to Akihabara tomorrow to see if the shop is open and if they have the proper cards. Will get 30 if they do. If they don't have the cards then we either order them online or ... Well other option is either we get 2 new readers (one for door, one for another device for adding, editing users) with some other cards (which I will not do, and refuse to do) like mifare everyone is really familiar with as every mention of my RFID card get an "ohhhh, mifare" reply or as office guys decided on a commercial system we can let them install that or I can hand out the remaining 2 cards + 2 keyfobs to some others (gave one keyfob to Jud as he was so upset and reminded me that he'll start paying again after he gets a key/card/hooligan bar/sledgehammer).

Everyone on the list will know immediately once I get to Akihabara and check out the shop. Then you can decide the action item, at this point I just stopped giving a fuck and want people to stop pushing me for something that I was not responsible of (I told everyone I invested enough to the project and will not order or deal with the cards), didn't had control of (Futurlec's bigtime order screw up!) and which simply didn't work out (15 minute Sunday trip to Akihabara just to check out the shop, finding it closed and hurrying back to Safecast office for board assemblies).

Thanks a lot if you managed to read this far.
Taylan
