Hi guys.
I'm thinking of trying to put together a camping trip to Kamogawa where Chris Harrington is for a pottery camp. I was originally thinking of a hacking camp, but they have an excellent pottery workshop out there that teaches classes. Since the days are warming up, I'm thinking of doing a pottery workshop, checking out the farms in Kamogawa, and barbecue/camping at night. I'm asking Chris what the prices would be for a 1 or 2 day class out there. Let me know if you're interested and we can figure out the schedules.

Just talked to Chris and he says July would be the best time since May is too soon and June is rainy season. I'm asking for prices on 1-day and 2-day pottery workshops and will update.

@Tomoko: Don't expect a ghost to help you with the pottery. Or if one does, don't expect too much. It might actually just be trying to eat your brains.

I am not so interested in pottery, but I am in camping. Are you guys planning to go camping in the summer?

You can just go camping and do your own thing while the pottery people take the workshop. Kamogawa is beautiful and there's lots to see. It's also close to the beach.

we might go down before then to get sumi and go to the beach and stop by and see chris. We found a dog friendly hotel so we can stay inside with mr. archie.

I finally got in touch with Sugiyama-san, the pottery guy.

The standard plan is usually about 1.5 hours for everyone to craft one
object each. The fee is usually 5,000 Yen per head, which breaks down
to:

Class: 4,000 Yen
Mailing the baked object: 1,000 Yen

He can't just bake it for you on the spot, which is also the case for
most other pottery class places. Due to reasons, he only runs the kiln
when it is full, and it takes up to a month to fill it, so the
finished product gets shipped in up to a month.

He also now has a Japanese style house for basic lodging nearby, if
anyone is interested. "Sudomari" (they just provide a spot on the
floor and a futon) is 3,000 Yen. Dinner and breakfast is an extra
3,000 for a total 6,000, if you want it. That is just one option for
anyone who doesn't want to camp.

I'll get back to you with camping info.

More info for the pottery tour:

This looks like the coolest camp ground I could find, and slightly
cheaper rates than some of the others. It is about 20 mins. away from
the pottery place.

Let me know if anyone needs help reading the site (Japanese only).

Thanks Chris.

I'd like to set the Pottery Camp for the weekend of July 28th. One day for pottery should be okay. And of course we're going to need to barbecue at night. Other than that, we should figure out if we want to do something on the second day. Anyways, I put up an event here just to kick things off. We can adjust it later:
