You should sell :)

My development laptop's power supply just overheated.  The LED went off.  I had accidentally put it under my blanket. I waited until it cooled Down a bit. The LED goes on again.  So I hope it had an overheating protection.  I will wait until it is completely cool to try it on the computer again.  With ought it I can't continue 3dpl development :(

So I'm really enjoying this thought of coming by and exchanging the BTC
I've gotten here in the US for JPY. Market prices permitting, anyone
want to buy some BTC off of me when I drop in at the end of the month? :)

I saw the graph for the full year, it was low most of hte year, it only spiked recently, for most of the year it was 40 dollars or less per bitcoin

That's correct...40 USD with a recent tsunami of buying in

Apparently it hit the radar of a few financeers and has been climbing since

Today marked a major drop and I expect things to quickly go rollercoaster with another tsunami of rapid changes....

It actually went quite high then halved in price

The only thing that surprised me was how high it peaked before crashing

I am personally waiting ot out and will cash out when I feel the time is right to do so

See.  You should have (in retrospect) sold it and then rebought it when it halfed in price.

My suggestion is still to sell and wait till it goes down again then buy in again. It is kind of like leaving a poker game while you are winning. It is good for you but bad for the others. But here you are under no responsibility to wait till the game ends.

I need to setup an exit strategy to get anything out...

And hindsight is a ways 20/20 right?

even at the lowest of this record crash I was still ahead

I know how this sounds... and I have confidence in how I am handling this

I don't know, I feel bad for those who lost money, but I don't worry about not cashing out. My coins were theoretically worth enough to buy a (very very small) apartment in Tokyo at the peak. But I don't feel bad about not selling. That money comes from real people, if I'd cashed out that would simply be a "transfer of wealth". I don't feel like that's a great way to make money. At the end of the day, the coins cost me nothing (I mined them long ago).

The best reason to be interested in Bitcoin is that it's an interesting and liberating technology. One that has huge implications (both good and bad) and would be disruptive if it gained widespread adoption. This I think is why VC funds like ycombinator are interested in it.

I hope some good will come of the cash (I think it did the last time it happened and we crashed from 30 to 3). I'd hope in part the community starts to rely less on mtgox (the crash was at least in part caused by a DDOS). I also threw some ideas on what an exchange might look like, people need to feel they /can/ sell, even if they don't:

http://41j.com/bitex/

In anycase, for the community it would probably be better if we were exchanging goods and services for BTC, rather than speculating.

And remember if nothing else Bitcoin is an awesome economics MMORPG.

I thought something like this would happen.... If I had any bitcoins, I would have been out once I doubled my profit,   and now that they are low, I would buy again.

If it were so easy then people would not lose their money on forex and stock markets. This is a real problem. Russian Roulette really is a more fair game IMO because after one pushes the trigger he is either a winner or dosen't care anymore. There is no remorse. LOL

well, at least with bitcoins it is possible to start with nothing, by mining bitcoins.....    so it is less risky than forex.   I have an English student that is actually very good at forex. he lives off of it. but it is not easy for me, thats why I Dont do it,   especially since I dont understand the leveraging system very well.

But I agree that the remorse factor may be huge in this....

Unless I end up spending it on other things, I'll have about 2.1 BTC to
burn in Tokyo, and really like the idea of turning it into JPY to spend. :P
