Dear paying members of THS- tomorrow night at the meeting please bring
me a pasmo or Suica card. You will need to leave it with me and this
will be issued as the digital lock key (it also still works as pasmo)
You will need to leave it with me and it will be registered by thurs.
evening then you can either pick it up at Kimono or pick it up at the
following tues meeting. If you are a paid member and will not be there
tomorrow let me know and I will get a passmo card for you- and will
prepare it for next week or your next time at the space.
If you are NOT a paid member- now's a great time to join. bring your
dues and a passmo card tomorrow night and we will sort out your all
access 24 hour door lock access.
Thanks
Let me know if you have any questions.
The digital lock will be turned on as of next week, after cards are
issued. from that time on the manual lock will not work. So regular
key will not work. So make sure you bring a pasmo or suica card for me
to register tomorrow or sometime before thurs. at 1pm

Is this not something that can be done at the space?
I'd rather not give up my commuter pass on a workday. If I could
register it on Weds when I'm there anyway, it would be nice.
Does it need to be strictly a PASSMO or plain Suica? I have an Icoca
and a Rinkai Suica (http://www.twr.co.jp/fare/suica.html) I could give
instead.

Same thing here, can you ask them if it is possible if I come on Thursday for the card addition? I prefer not to get another card just for THS + I use my card a lot so giving it out for a week is not possible.

Hmm, since my suica is in my phone...
Are the cards registered at the space or by the "gyousha"? Any fee for
registration/unregistartion?
Who will have access to the access logs?
Can we have at least a single "admin" who can register/unregister
cards? Or will we have to always beg them to do that?
Or have at least 2-3 meetings where cards can be registered (say even
earlier like 18:00-19:00)?
Wow- ok. I can answer questions tonight but boy the negative tone is
kind of discouraging.
If we had finished our OWN lock it would have been a sep. ID card- so
if you don't want to use your regular one I can just make a sep one
for THS for you. This would have been the case anyway. Just like
having an extra key not your house key. The suica/@passmo thing just
makes it easier for folks who want it one one card. But we can make an
extra card too.
other questions can be asked tonight I guess or I will follow up on
the list tomorrow.
basically we will register a first BATCH of cards on thurs. at 1pm If
you don't want to use your commuter card for this- I will just make a
sep. one for you.
No they are not charging us a fee for the cards
but to make it easier for the person in charge I agreed to do a batch
all at one time. for the first time and then we can do other ones as
we need going forward but we have to coordinate with their team (who
is just over at hikarie across from shibuya station so no big deal)
so for any paid member who doesn't bring a card tonight I can just
make a sep. one for you. and issue next week. our board can see the
access files if we like when we like and then share with the
membership. It will just include names not phone #s or other info That
is just for emergencies. THS will also have a few extra cards
registered for short term guests (1-2 mons) or for registering when
someone joins or other emergency needs. We will keep some extra ones
to handle when people join.

I think nobody was going to discourage you. Just from your first post
it sounded like members HAVE to bring an own card.
Thus, I guess many members were thinking how they should get a card so
quickly resp. how to deal with the week of absence of there daily used
cards.
If there are an option to just get a separate card.... problem solved.
For all you who do not have those card system in there phones. If you
use a mobile phone cover, chance are high that with a little bit of
modification the card would nicely fit in-between your mobile phone
and the case. With a little more work (one would need to study where
are the vital parts of the card) it even might fit in the battery
compartment of the phone. That is the way how I keep different SIM
cards for different countries and never forget to take them with me on
travel.

I guess my e-mail had the negative tone, so here is a clarification (although Totti smoothed out the things a little :) ) mail.
My main concern is twofold: Possible interference of multiple cards and people separating from their cards for a long time. First one is all about engineering and my own curiosity about RFID, second one is a social problem. In detail:
- Interference: Our OWN system was going to use 125 kHz cards, Suica/Passmo uses 13.56 MHz which means there are no interferences. You could've carried both cards in your wallet and just swipe them, 125 kHz card was the one that will be read and used. Now we have two cards that you cannot carry next to each other. Which can turn into a card loss problem. Key fobs and keys can be attached to your key chain to prevent losses. Cards have to be put inside your wallet or some other container. Which leads to interference problem, that is why people want to use their own cards I believe (at least that is the reason for me).
- Separation: Suica/Pasmo cards are convenient, really f*cking convenient. + We have our commuter passes attached to it (I don't have one but had one). Thus it is inconvenient and sometimes impossible for people to separate from them for about a week. And there is the phone aspect that I never thought about, thanks Kalin!
I can come on Thursday around 1 pm, so my problems are solved. I am a happy little hacker now. Dry and procrastinating at home and happy.
Hopefully see y'all tonight! Not you Totti, you are an emacs user :P

With Japanese people, I am there before the meeting time. With gaijins, my Mediterranean blood kicks in and suddenly I am relaxed. Ask Mikele, he should know! :D
If I am not there AT 1 pm, consider me not coming, probably alien abduction.

I hope you don't interpret many questions in a mail as "negative tone" ;-)
This is professional deformation for any thing that deals with security :-)
Taylan explained the concerns I had behind my questions, won't repeat them here.
But if there is no need for additional device to register the cards
(i.e. if cards can be registered at the door), I think we should
request one of us to become co-admin and not bother them anymore.
Depending on how logs are accessed, I might setup a system to
visualize/analyze them in near realtime and the first thing (that I
wanted to do in Shirokane) is "Who is there @THS now" or at least
"Anybody there?" display on a web-page.
