Hi,

Do any of you who work at libraries with branches have an intranet? A
colleague is looking for some examples -- I assume to help her sort
out what kind of content/structure to use on theirs.

Thanks.

Polly

Polly,

I be the Queen of the Intranet here at our Library.  In the midst of upgrading to our 3rd version right now.  We use Joomla as the CMS.  Any questions feel free to point them my way.  I can send screen shots or I can give access so they can poke around.  Someone on Twitter sent me this link - http://www.useit.com/alertbox/ia.html - found the info interesting.  We are trying to go more task based instead of dept. based this time around.  Once I get things pretty much mocked up we will conduct usability with staff to see if this works.

Attached is Screenshot-1 of current (too busy) Intranet and Screenshot-2 of bare bones of new Intranet.  Front page of new intranet will mimic our web site (http://www.hclibrary.org) in that the current announcements (which replaced system wide email blasts) and the notices (which replaced the branch wide emails) will rotate through (like our web site) and include teaser info w/detail links if needed and an image to grab people's attention.

Happy to help your colleague.

Beth

Hi Polly,

We have a password protected intranet.  If you have your colleague email me directly, I will send her a password good for 1 week so they can poke around.  Note we are in the midst of a total redesign and ours IS NOT the best example.  We hope to improve it soon!

Sincerely,

Stephanie Zimmerman

Hi Polly -

Your colleague is welcome to take a look at our library system's
Extranet at http://extranet.winnefox.org/ (no password needed).

We use Drupal as our CMS, and I've set up what Drupal terms "blocks"
to embed a MeeboMe IM widget, blogrolls from a system blog, our
Delicious bookmarks, and LISNews. Just about a year ago we migrated
from the Typo CMS to Drupal.
