So...does the goal of this group have something to do with a big show or something? I think it does...
What do you say we take this list of bands (that hopefully expands) and put them on a bill together? I think it'd also be reeeeaaaal cool to get some national/regional act to headline and bring the metaphorical pussy in to the show.

Hey guys, this is Kopper in old St. Lou... I set up this list just so fans of raw punk and primitive garage-oriented rock'n'roll in KC/Lawrence & beyond could have a place to talk about shows and promote themselves, get some action going out there. We have a similar group (TIRC-STL) here in St. Louis and it's great for promoting bands and shows & whatnot. BTW, not that it matters, but I used to live in both Lawrence and KC and think this might be a good way at kinda tying the two "scenes" (for lack of a better word) together somewhat. Here's the STL list:
NOW, on to your question... there IS a show brewing that will showcase bands from the Missouri area (basically MO and surrounding vicinities) called Show-Me Blowout. It'll be a two-day festival in October here in STL. I posted about it on the TIRC myspace blog:
If someone wants to organize a bigger festival or show or whatever and have The Spits or whoever else you want to come play, then by all means do it. But keep in mind shows like that take a lot of money to do...
Later, kopper

The Show Me Blowout sounds killer. Definitely planning a road trip to St. Louis for this one.
I can't imagine being able to pull off something similar here in the KC/Lawrence area, though, for two big reasons:
1) An enormous amount of scene apathy... I'm guilty of this myself, mostly because of...
2) ...the fact that most of the purported "garage" bands around these parts are just glorified 80's-style hesher rock, and don't we already have enough travelling fests promoting that kind of shit?
I'd be all for Mr. Barbarick's idea to get The Spits in town for some kind of weekender, but we'd be hard pressed to dig up enough local bands to fit the bill, much less enough enough of an audience that we wouldn't lose our ass financially... There just ain't enough people in Lawrence with good taste!

Hey, it's the same in St. Louis. KC actually has more bands than we do right now! I'll be sure to add the ones to the band page on here so you can check 'em out (none of them sound anywhere near '80s "hesher rock" either), but don't be so hard on the KC/Lawrence garage scene... it's the same pretty much everywhere.
There's an enormous amount of scene apathy on this side of the state as well. But that just means you have to work harder at promoting shit. You have to make it happen cuz no one else will. So invite everyone you know who even remotely may be into this stuff to join this list. The more people on the list, the easier it'll be to promote stuff and build upon what you have now (as little as you think it may be).
