I'm working on a new set of globals for TinyMUX. Cross-compatibility is not planned at this or any future period, but neither do I plan to go out of my way to make it platform specific. The short version of this is that I'm a fan of TinyMUX, that I see no reason for others not to be, and that I see nothing wrong with promoting my preferred platform.

Planned features include:
*The usual slate of player globals (who, where, finger, blah blah) with a bias toward modularity and easy customization

  * The inclusion and initial setup of useful systems such as Anomaly Jobs, Myrddin's BBS, and Myrddin's Mushcron

  * Comprehensive staff code systems to track things like building projects and staffnotes, with a basic building setup with quota already in place.

  * An updated netmux.conf for the game, a basic channel setup with channel objects and history, a basic guest system in place, and more.

The goal is to have everything you need to get a MUX up and running easily without having to completely reinvent the wheel.SGP does an admirable job of getting people started, but the state of MU*ing has changed quite a bit, and it'd be nice to see a globals package that reflects that. I'll be writing several things myself, looking to SGP for others, and taking contributions from people with useful code they'd like to see broadly released.

I'm a long way from actually releasing anything, but development is ongoing again (I started this back in May, but a move to Canada and the untimely death of my laptop slowed me down) and is progressing steadily. If you have questions or would like to contribute, feel free to contact me on or off list.

Thanks,

Stephen/Soylent

Would it be possible to get a 'character aging' solution as well?
Perhaps something that allows for a 'speed of aging' where one can put
1:1 (realtime), 2:1, 3:1, etc. I played on a game once where you set
your age, and then the game keeps track of how old you are and even
alerts you as to when your characters birthday is.

Just a suggestion. :)

My plan is to get a foundation of globals out that can work for any game, and then add on a specific package of globals tailored to White Wolf World of Darkness games (for which I intend to use SGP's stat system, because it's a great piece of infrastructure), and that'll include things like +time. It'd be a simple thing from there to pick and choose something like SGP's RP pack for code that doesn't apply to every game, but is useful for certain games, and once you have mushcron and +time, birthdays are trivial.

The thing that actually got me onto the idea of doing this was time code. I started a project something like 6 or 7 years ago to do a set of astronomy code for moon phases, realistic sunrise and sunset times that change through the year, along with various events like the Perseids, transits of Venus and Mercury, etc. About half of that got done before I decided I should try to do my +time with a different ratio for day and night, like the system that Masquerade had. I failed horribly, and have been assured by several mathematician friends that what I'm trying to do is impossible without sequestering myself in a monastery devoted to both Sir Isaac Newton and Leibniz, and meditating very hard on the calculus. Which is funny, because I know other places have done it, and I'm missing something.

So I guess the point is that yeah, I can do that, and if anyone has code for variable day and night ratios please pass it along. ;)

Well, Keran's Weather has time stuff in it i believe. I used to use
it for a while but I found most people ignored what ever 'weather' was
there, and went along with what worked for them. Im not into
white-wolf, never was into goth/vampire/werewolf type of games, but
instead im more into palladium fantasy/rifts.

My idea is really simple. A player sets an 'age' and it keeps track
of it. It might show something like 'So and so is 32 years old.' or
maybe, as one other game i know of does, 'So and so appears to be 32
years, 9 months, 3 days old.' The latter isnt all that realistic, but
if added to a +finger/+info it could be more useful.
