This may be an old question, but this past weekend I was forced to
retire my sick Windows XP computer and the new one is Windows Vista 64-
bit.

Although I would have thought that Texas Instruments would long ago
have solved the problem of connectivity for the TI-Nspire users moving
to new computers, their TI-Nspire Computer Link program has not
connected with either of my TI-Nspires, CAS and non-
CAS.

Does anyone have a solution? Downgrading to XP is not an option since
my school is providing a Tablet PC for the next school year, and I
want to be comfortable with the Vista environment. Thanks!

I ended up turning in my new 64 bit computer and exchanged it for a 32
bit.

The problem seems to be related to the 64 bit drivers.
And that's a tricky question.

If waiting is not a problem I'd reccommend waiting for the next
version (rumor is a new Nspire OS is due anytime soon, maybe a new
version of the computer link will also be available), that may already
include 64 bit support (TI people, care to comment on this issue?).

Other options are:

1. Install Microsoft's virtual PC with a XP installation; it's a
virtual machine, quite handy to develop websites as it allows you to
have multiple browsers and multiple OSes in one single computer, but
can also be used to run legacy apps.

2. Wait for Windows7 that will have a complete OS virtualization to
run XP compatible software.

Behind door number 3, unfortunately, you only have the option of
turning in your 64 bit laptop and getting a 32 bit one (not my
favourite solution...).

Hope this helps,
Nelson

That is interesting to hear about Windows7. I just heard a piece on the radio about Windows7 and how it will fix 'all' the annoying things about Vista. They are hoping it will come out in Nov/Dec and boost the economy with sales of new computers because people tend to prefer getting a new computer in order to upgrade instead of updating their OS.

See you in Nashville. I heard the maximum number of participants has been reached, but I suppose it doesn't hurt to ask.

What I'd do for linking is have an old crummy computer with windows 98
or newer on it for linking. Old computers aren't all that hard to find
and they definitely don't come in 64-bit...

anything running XP will be better. Most up to date drivers will go
back to win2k at most.

a) Microsoft has said that Windows 7 should be out by the holiday season.

b) I believe that the XP Virtualization will only be available with
the Professional/Business (read: expensive) version.

Igor and Dale, which versions (editions - home, ultimate, etc.) of
Vista are you using? This might be the reason for the difference?

It looks like Vista Home (Premium) has trouble running some XP
programs, but Vista Ultimate does not. Can anyone else
confirm/corroborate this?
