Someone recently posted a doc that would generate radicals to be simplified and have the students work the problem step by step.  Does anyone have something similar for factoring quadratics?

I just uploaded a file called Quadratic Factors that should do what you want Dan.

I have a couple of questions.

 

1)      Does this generate quadratics where a<>1?

2)      Is it possible for a student to enter a quadratic that they would like to solve perhaps from their homework and the program walks them through it like it does for the problems that it generates?

The answer is yes to question 1 and not yet to question 2 (but you have reminded me that I meant to do that!)

You will notice that the program quadratic_factors() currently has 1 as its argument. Change that to 2 and you will get non-monic quadratics generated.

If I get a chance to add the ability to enter their own quadratics I will let you know.

OK Daniel - grab the new version of Quadratic Factors from the Google Files page - it should do what you would like.
