Have been thinking a lot lately about how to build a nice, simple,
entertaining street performance series wherein you teach the general
public (whoever's watching) practical skills. I realized that this
might be a good fit with the Urban Agriculture program that Andrew
Harris is working on: what if we put together a roving street
performance that taught people how to plant and care for edible
gardens? We could dress up like farmers, play songs about plants,
juggle, actually help people plant and tend to gardens, etc. Does
anybody have interest in developing this concept and applying it on
the streets of Baltimore? Let me know.
I'd be interested. It sounds like it could be an extension of my kids
show. AND I used to have a huge vegetable garden....not that I have
any real knowledge of gardening! But things grew and they were tasty
and I ate them, so I have that going for me.

This was like a huge huge teach-in for people interested in learning
more about the movement away from processed non-food to growing one's
own vegetables and buying locally....I attended it with my wife and
some friends and took some pictures. They planted a nice big garden
out on the small park across the street from San Francisco's City Hall
and held a bunch of events with speakers on many of the issues facing
small farms and other non-corporate food providers.

I saw ta 60 minutes special about this recently (slow foods, local). The lady they profiled was awesome. Baltimore could use an a good insfusion of that.

Not sure who it was that left me a voicemail about busking at the
Urban Ag Gala. I'm not the contact person though and apologize for not
having had a chance yet to call you back. Please contact Andrew Harris
regarding this event, whose info should be attached to this thread.
Cheers!
