Well the one thing that hurts more than anything else with this recession is the change in the viewing of art. It has always been the art that goes from the mind of people when money is tight. This dose not mean that we stop making that art that our heart tells us to.
However it dose mean that there are a lot of things about it that we have to give up. For me it is my studio, or at least the mass access to it. I have also given up my time, and the time that could have been used for festivals. As many people have done in the past I have been working in a non-art position that will help fend off the wolves at the door while the economy smoothes out.
The hard thing about this is the lack of control in life, and the fear of losing myself by giving up on my work to make a living and try to show responsibility when it comes to those in my life. I would hate to make those that I live with and are now helping me having to always to have to do so. I hope to someday be able to stand on my own, so to do so I have to give some of myself just like they have for me. I can only hope that it will not permanently effect my career.
