Mark Hewitt is a potter that I have liked for a long time. I was lucky enough last year to be able to interview him for a Sr Project that I was doing. His work is best seen on his own website http://www.hewittpottery.com/, though I have a few images here that may give you a small example of his works. His glazes are amazing in their natural appeal. I also find that his overall earthy nature in his work is something that I would like for my work to have. I know I have a long way to go, but we all have to start some place.

To me though his most interesting fact is the versatility in his work. While he makes the “basics” Vases and Cups, the most interesting of his works in my way of thinking are the Giants. His large Lawn Ornament sized creations in ever size and Shape are magnificent.

The times that I spoke with him were amazing because while you think of someone as a “rock star” in their own way, you later find that they are very down to earth. Most of all getting the chance to talk to someone that you have respected as an artist is a great treat that ever artist should take the time to do more often.

I am going to be traveling back to my home town in March for his show. I would not miss another chance to meet him, most of all when he is in my own backyard.

I hope everyone has a chance to enjoy his work as much as I do.
