is there still a place where one can get the osx 10.4 cd's? i'm picking up a pair of imacs within a couple weeks, one for sure is cd only, the other i'm not sure, and all i have is osx 10.4 on dvd. i dont have a firewire dvd drive, nor the means to get one at this point.
Put your Tiger DVD in a mac with a DVD drive. Restart that mac, and hold down "t" as it starts up. Connect a FireWire cable between the 2 macs. Start up the one without the DVD drive, and hold down the Option key. Select the OS X DVD icon, and press enter. You should be able to install any OS that is on a DVD this way..

You could probably catch a copy on either eBay or craigslist
You could use Toast version 7 and above to make a copy of your DVD and it will give you the option to span the DVD into 2 CD's. No point in going out and buying another set when you can do it this way. I know this works because I done it with OS X and iLife '06 to back up my own personal copies.

Yes but then will they be bootable and useable? The DVD version of the installer doesn't expect 2 CDs and moreover when a friend made me a copy of Tiger install DVD from her Macbook because I'd lost mine, I got an error on bootup saying I couldn't use it, and it wasn't even a 2-CD span. I'm very skeptical that someone will get away with this.
My recommendation, if it's possible, is to start the Macs in target mode if possible, and install Tiger via firewire- but if the mac is so old that it pre-dates DVD players- um, are you sure it'll be happy with Tiger, versus an older O/S?
