I am delighted to announce that Eric Shulman has accepted the role of
lead developer for 'classic' TiddlyWiki. He's taking over from Martin
Budden who is leaving Osmosoft to pursue other interests.

As we all know, Eric is already the incredible powerhouse at the heart
of the TiddlyWiki community. He maintains a prodigious library of
plugins at http://tiddlytools.com/, and is second to none with his
patient and inventive answers to questions on the group. In fact,
given that tiddlywiki.com currently checks in at 568KB and
tiddlytools.com is 2690KB, his new role will only increase his
codebase by just over 20%.

Anyhow, Eric will now also manage the TiddlyWiki road map and release
cycle, and start to use GitHub to process the tickets, patches and
pull requests that power the TiddlyWiki development process. He's got
a bit of a learning curve to get to grips with git and GitHub (one I'm
still stumbling over myself) but as he gets up to speed we hope he'll
be able to run the engine a little hotter than in the past.

The plan is for Eric to use TW5 as the build tool for both
tiddlywiki.com and tiddlytools.com, ensuring that he keeps a foot in
both the old and the new camps, giving the community continuity as we
transition from the old code to the new.

Part of the motivation for the change is to allow me to focus on
TiddlyWiki5 development, and building up consultancy work to fund it.
But it's also a first step towards the "TiddlyWiki collective",
pulling together a core group who are dedicated to working on
TiddlyWiki, and creating a sustainable business model to do so.

Right now, the collective is "pre-revenue" and so Eric still needs our
generosity and support in order to survive. I'd urge you to read
Eric's post from last year, and encourage you to contribute if you are
able to.

As I've said elsewhere, I want to build TiddlyWiki into a product that
endures for 25 years, remaining useful and relevant. I hope therefore
that we're really just at the start of the story.

Best wishes

Jeremy

This is good news!
(I also hope good for Martin b.t.w.)

The new role for Eric creates a solid landscape around tw.
Good for TiddlyWiki.
And I'm very glad for Eric.

Its good news.
I am excited about the "TiddlyWiki collective" idea as well as Eric
being part of new and old TW.
Shouldn't there be some kind of get together?

We used to have occasional TiddlyChat evenings at Osmosoft which were
quite a fun way for TiddlyWiki people to meet and discuss shared
interests. I'd be very happy to see such a thing restart; would there
be any interest in holding one in London?

In terms of getting together virtually, Eric and I have been talking
fairly regularly on Skype, and have discussed the idea of
re-establishing regular community calls (we used to have core
development calls a year or two ago). Again, would there be any
interest?

Best wishes

Jeremy

Community Calls and Meetup - I am interested

I wonder if there are enough people to warrant week-end meet up, one
which may be combined with some week-end break type activity.

I would love a regular place to have a weekly chat.
Like a Friday noon pub.
It's great to stay in contact and to expand on ideas later-on.

TiddlyChat is also great.
However London for a day can be a long journey.

Eric will run it like no one else could, I'm sure!!!

I really hope that some of the very gifted programmers who has
contributed in the past - will consider to get back into the TW-
business making it even more brilliant, with a plethora of plugins for
the new TW5...

Mario Pietzsh, Tobias Beer, Jon Robson, Paolo Soares, Saq Imtiaz ,
BidiX,...... - Just to name a few of those who were active for longer
periods of time and have contributed with plugins that we NEED to see
in some reincarnation or another - in the new TW5...

I don't often post here but I'd like to take this opportunity to wish Jeremy and Eric every success going forward.  As Jeremy is aware, my relationship with TW goes way back (my wife couldn't live without it) and Eric may recall helping me a few times with customization code.

Like most, I'm looking forward to TW5 and when Jeremy says he wants it to "endure for 25 years" - that's pretty much the definition of a generation.  So here's to the next generation!

Cheers!

Congratulations to both - This is an excellent and huge move forward! My thanks to both of you and the entire community for all the productivity (and fun!) that TW has brought me!

Wonderful news, indeed!  I particularly like Jeremy's "25 years" time horizon, which should be quite adequate for me as a "sexagenarian" :-)
