Having realized that I misspelled a word that occurs frequently in my
TW, I would like a search-and-replace function. I was surprised that
there isn't one in the basic TW. Is there a plugin that provides this
functionality?...

Thanks,
Matthew

Hi Matthew,

There is QuickEditPlugin with which you can search and replace
tiddlers one by one:
http://www.tiddlytools.com/#QuickEditPlugin

And there is SearchAndReplacePlugin for search and replace a term
throughout the tiddler StoreArea of the whole TiddlyWiki:
http://devpad.tiddlyspot.com/#SearchAndReplaceMacro

Thanks, Wolfgang.

I'm trying - but failing - to get Eric's code working.

I've imported all tiddlers tagged 'QuickEditPackage,' and followed the
installation instructions. I see the links to "replace" (and other)
macros below the title field, but when I select text to replace, and
click the "replace" link, nothing happens.

Any suggestions?...

Thanks again,
Matthew

Open your tiddlywiki in wordpad.

Search and replace in that. Just be careful you don't accidentally
change some code :-)

It's not neat but it certainly can save hours of 'Ddit/mangle/Done'

Do the other formatting, importing... options of QuickEditPlugin
function?
Is there a error message in the PluginManager about QuickEdit or any
other related plugins?

With external editors I had very nasty experiences destroying the
TiddlyWiki - and would first try SearchAndReplacePlugin - with backups
made.

Excellent advice, Lyall.

In fact, when I used to use TW a lot, I used to open files in emacs to
make changes like this. I'd just forgotten about this option -- and
not thought of it again....

Thanks,
Matthew

Thanks for the reply, Wolfgang.

As it happens, the plugin is now working. Maybe a restart of Firefox
was necessary?... I'm not sure, but I'm good to go.

And now I know about the PluginManager!...

Thanks again,
Matthew

Plugins are ''always'' loaded only after a save and reload cycle of
the whole TiddlyWiki - other than scripts which depend on
InlineJavascriptPlugin. An article about that:

OMG! Another Emacs user !

Makes editing so much easier than wordpad, such a pity the majority
will probably never experience the true power of this editor :-)

Matthew,

I use the Firefox extension 'It's All Text" which allows me to use my favorite editor (gvim) when editing tiddlers. It works very well for me, and you might find it useful, too.

There's also ExternalizePlugin to simplify the work with 'It's All
Text" extension in TiddlyWikis:
