Hi,

Is there anyone here who is going to attend Wikimania 2008 conference?

http://wikimania2008.wikimedia.org/

I try to raise issue on using tiddywiki for personal blogging tool and
portability on using it offline. Do you think this is good enough for
catching the attention of the organizer?

Appreciate if you could inform on how to better promote of tiddlywiki,
better ideas or suggestions etc. In earlier version of tiddywiki I could
find link examples but now they are gone!

Hi Handoko,

The usefulness of TW is far beyond blogging: a blog is by no means a
wiki, but TW for sure is very, very much wiki-like. You might call it
a personal wiki.
And more important even then it's portability and offline use is the
fact that TW is completely self-contained: no additional software
needed, nor local nor on the server (no database, no PHP, and what
have you).
For a showcase of examples you could refer to http://giffmex.tiddlyspot.com/
(made by Dave Gifford).

Good luck / Ton.

Thanks Ton, appreciate the link for samples of TWs.

I need to create awareness for the organizer and the audience as I'm
invited to attend. However this is a worldwide mediawiki conference and
I'm trying to introduce TW in general. The blogging or portability are
just issues of what TW can do.

So far there is not so much response about the usefulness of TW that I
want to promote prior to the conference in July 2008.

When there is not so much willing for a showcase of TW then it would be
dropped off the agenda of the conference :)

Hello Handoko,

I think that'd be a great opportunity to present TiddlyWiki to a wider
audience.

Considering that this is a WMF conference, you might wanna highlight
TW's ability to pull in data from MediaWiki-powered wikis with the
MediaWikiFormatterPlugin and MediaWikiAdaptorPlugin.* (Note: MediaWiki
only recently introduced a full API, so sending data from a TW to a MW
doesn't work yet).

Keep us updated on whether this works out!

Hi Handoko

Sounds like a good idea to me.

One helpful step in support of promoting awareness of tw would be for tw aficionados to strengthen the TiddlyWiki entry on Wikipedia. I just took a look at the page, and noticed that it falls far short of providing an adequate description of its structure and features, and the page carries the following message from Wikipedia:

This article or section may contain an excessive amount of external links.
Please improve this article by incorporating them into the appropriate end section, or by converting them to inline citations
