I came across this story yesterday about Electric Cars -

What I found interesting -
Detroit Electric was an American brand for electric cars between 1907
and 1939 before the company went out of business.

IIRC, cars started out electric but combustion engines took over at
some point in the early days. Range was probably a factor (as it is
today).
